This was the highest Hessian bravery decoration for enlisted soldiers during WWI.That construction, especially the pin style, makes me think post-WW1, possibly 1930s. Women take pleasure in Rings, necklaces, etc... men can like beautiful things as well, and I bet in the 20s and 30s a few of them lived this out with nice versions of medals.
