    1. Dave, Thanks for the step by step explanation, it worked. I feel for you with the arm, mine isn't much better although it wasn't broken, but it's getting there. At least you didn't break it at the beginning of your trip. Andy, scroll down below the the copy of the actual Verlustlisten page and you'll see a box with the page details, right click and a new window opens, click on 'view page source or 'view source' depending on your browser, another window opens showing lots of IT stuff. Scroll down till you see <div class="body"> Below that you'll see a link showing the page number in the address I copied that link and pasted it into the address bar, changed the number to 04220 and pressed enter and page 4220 appeared in a size everyone can read. Tony
    2. That's a nice lot Stuart and great to hear they've been kept together all these years. Is the watch a runner? Tony
    3. Thanks for all the replies! Jens, I get exactly the same as Andy shows above, no sign of the number 4221 that can be changed. I've applied to be a registered user so hopefully that'll solve my problem. Dave, I hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip, Tony
    4. Thank you Gunnar and Jonas for the prompt replies. Jonas, I don't get the page number when I search, this is what I get for page 4221 http://des.genealogy.net/search/show/1250929. Thanks for the link though, unfortunately the previous page shows Gren. Regt.100 as the unit. And so my search goes on, I'll try logging on. Tony
    5. Jerry, the flamethrower thing isn't a dead cert but would they have worn a tank badge on the arm or unit insignia? There isn't a single photo of my grandfather in uniform so I'm sort of trying to piece together what his BD blouse may have looked like. The only thing I know is that he carried a revolver. Tony Edit: just been checking out online pictures, it seems they wore at least the tank arm badge, Royal Armoured Corps sew on shoulder titles and their parent unit (The Buffs) cap badge.
    6. Does anyone know the type of insignia a Trooper in the 141st Regt., Royal Armoured Corps might have worn on his BD in France 1944? In particular a tank driver who had something to do with flamethrowers. Thanks Tony
    7. Jerry, do they always have the bootlace holding the liner in place or is that particular to this manufacturer? Tony
    8. After recently buying some photo postcards and deciphering the squiggly lines on the back it appears I have a photo of a pre war Saxon regular so, I checked the German casualty lists online (the surname Schmidt didn't put me off) and think I may have found him here near the top left http://des.genealogy.net/search/show/1250929 Gren. Hugo Schmidt. The problem I'm having is that I can't turn the page to check I have the correct unit (Gren. Regt. 101). Does anyone know how to turn the pages on the Verlustlisten site? Tony
    9. A cross added to the lid? They can do that now? The buyer is the crazy one but I know you and you is crazy too bro :)
    10. I've seen cast reproductions, they look horrible and as far as I can remember they don't have a number on the reverse. Tony
    11. I can't get on the CWGC site, have you tried spelling variations of his surname? Tony
    12. Try searching Turkish War Medal Jock or just take a squiz at these ones http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/57871-gallipoli-star-and-campaign-bars/ There are a few threads on fakes too although I can't tell the difference. I only have the painted Turkish made version. Tony
    13. Don't know if this helps but this site http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mike.comerford/ORDNANCE/48.htm points out that the eight pointed star would indeed have been worn by a Quartermaster Sergeant. Is the cannon perhaps just some kind of trade badge? It's slightly different than the rank cannon badge. Tony
    14. Do they work? What do they run on, carbide or oil? Tony
    15. Andy, You might want to get your bum over to Australia where you can get as many skinny blondes as you can handle http://skinnyblonde.com.au/site/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=94&Itemid=114 Tony
    16. It would raise some eyebrows if the placard on the roof read Bangor City FC,
    17. I know more about baking cakes than WWII German stuff but it sort of looks old enough to me. Hopefully someone can confirm it but until then, I wouldn't put it on the fire.
    18. I forgot to mention the helmet was only on loan
    19. Does anyone know of a French prison camp in or near Rheims/Reims where Germans where held from at least 1919 onwards? I have some photos taken in 1919 and 1920 relating to a POW camp, on one card is P.G.K 966, Reims, Jan. 1920 and on another is P.G. Komp. 960 Reims, Okt. 1919. Tony
