Please Gentlemen, I have seen this badge before, in fact my Great-Grandfather's uncle had one (got the picture of him wearing it, but can't find it right now) it is the Kaiserliche-Graben-F?hrer-Abzeichen (imperial trench pilot badge) not to be confused with the Kaiserliche-Graben-Beobachter-Abzeichen (imperial trench observer badge) that one is without the swords. I will post the picture of Great-Grandfather's uncle when I find it. All the Best Hardy

On the right side of the base is engraved the number 1264921 either a POW number or his military service number. Hi Kev, looks like Arthur was in a Gebirgsj?ger unit he was taken to the American POW camp in Heilbronn (my father and was there as well as a POW) first then was transfered to a camp in France. the # 1264921 I belive is a Feldpostnummer and was scratched in the mess tin before the POW-camp-art a common way to mark personal gear. Will check later tonight what unit carried that FPN. All the Best Hardy

Sorry, I did not understand your question. googled and found this: Reserve officers: Reserve officer candidates of the Waffen-SS, after taking a preparatory course and Reserve-F?hrer-Bewerber-RFB, became SS-junker der Reserve and then attended a reserve officer candidate course (Reserve-junker-Lehrg?ng), held at a special-service school of the Waffen-SS which lasted about 4 months. After the mid-term examinations they became Standartenjunker der Reserve, and after the final examinations Standartenoberjunker der Reserve. Foreign officers of the reserve (Waffen-F?hrer der Reserve) also attended the reserve officer candidate courses.

Hello, I grew up in the 60's near Pforzheim. The small town had a factory branch of the Schmuckwaren Fabrik Speidel Pforzheim. In the early 70's the factory had some renovations, a school friend of mine rumaging through the waste bins found several cardbord boxes full of iron crosses and parts. The iron crosses were only partially finished - they were EK2s without the the loop to hold the ring attached. Some were just unpainted cores in a very rusty condition and some of the boxes had frame parts. I kept a partially finished EK2, but don't know what happened to it. Hardy
