    1. From the 1955 German Movie: "Der 20. Juli" Two questions: Is the bar possible? If yes, is the bar correct for Erich Hoepner? Hans Zesch-Ballot portraying Generalleutnant Erich Hoepner
    2. It's a fantasy item, not even close to a German uniform. Not sure of the origin could be Swiss or Scandinavian, not worth finding out. Sorry Pat
    3. Messieur Lieutenant Joseph Lauterborn of the Garde-J?ger (chasseurs-gardes) was awarded the Orden der Westf?lischen Krone (Ordre de la Couronne de Westphalie) on March 3, 1813 I will post the entry when I get home
    4. It is not Luftwaffe. Therefore Gordon couldn't find it. A non-scientific institute, called Gewerbliches Institut*, implies a civilian service provider. Wach = Guard / Security Institut = service provider My theory: It must be some transitional occurrence were private security personnel adopted by the Luftwaffe retained their civilian Armband for a while. Have a look at the link below: The sender of the 1934 postcard is a Wach-Institut owned by Willy Sch?nhoff in L?bau, Saxony. They offer Sicherheitsdienste (private security services) and Heimschutz (home invasion protection). http://cgi.ebay.fr/Lobau-Postkarte-Wach-In...emZ370186718435
    5. Must be East-German, could be from any decade of the old DDR
    6. Yes, Messieur Sous-Lieutenant Lauterborn au deuxi?me bataillon d'infanterie l?g?re de Westphalie Is your k?niglich-westphalischer Unterleutnant des 2. Leichten Bataillons, Joseph Lauterborn
    7. Here, one like yours being sold without a liner: http://cgi.ebay.de/Alter-schwarzer-Stahl-F...%3A1%7C294%3A50 Here is another one with a nice period liner: http://cgi.ebay.de/FEUERWEHRHELM_W0QQitemZ...%3A1%7C294%3A50 Here is one offered with liner for under 30 euros: http://cgi.ebay.de/Konvolut-Feuerwehr-Helm...%3A1%7C294%3A50
    8. No Pat, the SS letters stamped in the liner have nothing to do with the http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_06_2009/post-1062-1244134945.jpg. This type of helmet was worn by the German voluntary fire departments until the 80s, without the original decals it is of little value.
    9. The VT did not use this kind of helmet It is a M-34 (curved dip with salt shaker vents) civic helmet - these helmets were used by German Fire-Departments and Police. Fire-Departments and Police were under the control of the SS. Is it a light weight or full weight? (light weight helmets are lighter then the regular army helmets) Are there remnants left of leathers for a neck flap? Some M-34 had no neck flap attachements build in the liner. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_06_2009/post-1062-1244122035.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_06_2009/post-1062-1244124367.jpg
    10. I found a Kurhessen Second-Lt. Lauterborn in the 2nd Light Infantry Battalion of the Kingdom of Westphalia, 1812. "Napoleon created the KINGDOM OF WESTPHALIA (1807 - 1813) by merging a number of hitherto independent territories (the Duchies of Braunschweig and Anhalt, the County of Hessen-Kassel = Kurhessen ) with former Prussian territories. He allocated the kingdom to his brother JEROME BONAPARTE. The capital of the state was Kassel."
    11. I checked the 1823 Rangliste of the 25th Infanterie-Regiment and he is not there (yet).
    12. It is episodes like this that will prevent you from rehabilitating your reputations
    13. Colin, here is a very interesting interview with Philipp von Boeselager. He gave the interview to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung three weeks before his death in 2008. http://www.faz.net/s/RubCF3AEB154CE6496082...n~Scontent.html
    14. Exactly, like this for example: The difference is that it neither distract from nor attempt to add to the value.
    15. Greg, what do you want to know? The cross seems to be original but, as it has been established, is pretty much destroyed by the bogus inscription. Look: 1. No one alive would scratch their birthday on the back of such an award. 2. What is the meaning of the 1938 birthday date? (The cross was not awarded until June 1939) 3. For all the other points see page 1 of this thread. I don't believe that you, with all your experience in handling German Awards, really think that there is a chance for the inscription to be period.
