nice strap Chip! The Regiments 169 and 170 of the 52 Division had some selected men trained in April 1917 in Ober-Elsass by Sturmbataillon 16 for theses raids. the pictures are from the morning after the raid (Sept 6 1917), before the prisoners were taken to the rear.

You guys - nothing gets past you Yes, trench raid The picture is from Leutnant Hurst's photo album - The raid took place on September 5 1917 at the Winterberg (Plateau de Californie). Lt Hurst and Unteroffizier Thomer were leading the raid party of volunteers from the II. Batl. IR170. Hurst and Thumer made three prisoners two NCO and an enlisted man from from the 63. Chasseurs. Wanna see pictures?

you are welcome It says in Felix' biography that he was awarded the "Sternendekoration" (Star award) from the United States. Has anyone an idea what medal that could be?

The boards (Oberfeldwebel) without the Offiziersanw?rter strap are correct for your silver piped (collar) tunic.

The material and color of the boards should match the tunic - It appears that the boards you posted are of a different material and weave than your tunic.
