Hi, just happened across this while looking for something else. Doctors could NOT award EKs... for soldiers badly wounded and meriting a silver wound badge, there was an automatic award (as long as there were no negative reports from the unit) but in the cases where the guy was in hospital back in germany it was made by the Stellvertreter for the commander of the Wehrbezirk. I wonder how Armierungs soldiers were chosen? Did the British Labour battalions use the same criteria to select the soldiers? From what I see in Militärpässe, they recieved no military training, were only given a spade and told where to dig.... I would have said, they were unfit for fighting units (not even artillery ;-) ) but how good is a labour battalion full of guys with medical problems... If someones eyesight was not good enough to handle a rifle maybe? Anyone have any ideas?

Does the ettapeninspektion have its own Generalstab to which this unknown officer belonged... or is it the Generalstab of the 7. Armee?

Does anyone have 1 or 2 really clear photos of the FW Skull being worn that I can use? I am looking for these for a project I am working one. If it is EK award day and the guy is wearing his EK... even better ;-)
