    1. I would buy it without a worry
    2. System "D" ;-)
    3. Something new to this.... It was posted earlier... "EX"- Soldier of the 49th Infantry regiment.... I had overlooked that the "EX" means no longer serving.... in the case of this man, he was serving in 1830 !!!!! 1830 was the date the Regiment took part in the first part of the pacification of Algerie... The first and only time they served there... # Embarque ? A superb bit of info to find :-)))))
    4. Please try out the new search engine... I am very proud of it :-))
    5. Indeed, but there is a very strong trend that units had a bunch of awards pushed through right after major actions. It was done to improve the moral of the survivors who had left a lot of friends behind and were still sometimes is a rather miserable state. Usually units were pulled from the line, sent to rest and "Whammo" they got their EKs.
    6. Hi, The Division was pulled from the front on the 1st of August 1918, Your guys unit took part in the fighting to the West of Rheims in the Marne-Champagne offensive... see here for a brief explanation... http://www.kaiserscross.com/41902/43401.html
    7. See whats new as Harry Fecitt carves out a niche in Africa..... A great new asset to the site as the exciting history of the "Dark Continent" gets taken in hand by a man who loves the subject.... http://www.kaiserscross.com/152301.html
    8. Hi, would the Croix de combattant not make this substantially newer than WW1? Best Chris
    9. Were they privately named or did the army do that for the guys? Thanks Chris
    10. a very interesting bar indeed!! I am guessing a priest? Rick?
    11. Although it seems to have veered off in a bit of an other direction, the EK work is still going on... as a sideline I am playing with some other things... Like what you will find on todays update.... ;-) http://www.kaiserscross.com/40020.html
    12. I proudly present to you...... It is a small subsection that squeaks into the site because of the War in Africa theme.... I dont want to try and compete with Hendrick who has a lot more covered than I will ever be able to do, but here I have a way to display my Diplomas for the Medaille coloniale and D#Outre Mer.... nothing rare.... but I like em! http://www.kaiserscross.com/183501/home.html
    13. He was 21 010.... Susan Travers was 22 166
    14. Although from this guys age, he does not look to have been a pre war recruit. badenhausen is also a looooong way from the border. I assume there must have been an interesting story as to why and how he joined. That Pre war german Legionnaires were kept I knew before, but it is unusual to take a member of a belligerent nation on DURING the war. And WHERE could he have been recruited if the war had already broken out? I guess with the servicenumber it could be roughly worked out when. Best Chris
    15. Toast. But there are occasions in life where not being ready will cost you a damned side more than the price of a new shirt... ;-)
    16. Indeed.... but born in 1920... so probably not a pre war legionnaire, but seemingly one who joined up during the war!!! I will cry on my way to bed tonight having been too stupid to bid higher....
    17. How often did I see it.... :-) The guys who had one class A shirt prepped for use (ie, all 15 pleats ironed in, all the loops sewn on for the cloth insignia and metal badges....) Into town on the weekend, picked up by the PMs and tossed into the slammer for the weekend.... Monday morning 6am released to the company to pass in front of the captain... not a clean shirt to be found anywhere.... Ironing pleats like crazy.... no time to do the loops..... Quickly grabbing a Bic lighter and some plastic "Q-tips" .... and whammo.... the lazy mans press studs.....
    18. I would assume the added Minis etc were maybe done by the vet? I would think twice about changing anything on it....
    19. Hi. Posted here in the hope there is a tiny, tiny chance of clearing up a question a French collector/researcher posed in the German Marine Verein magazine about 12 years ago... Here is the staff of the 3rd U-Boot Flotilla, Someone was trying to identify the people on the photo. My wife told me to pull my finger out and answer the man.... its taken 12 years... but I now have the answer... In the slight chance one of our French members is that Person, here it is...
    20. I could cry......... Why did I not bid more..... :-((((((((
    21. I missed it... someone bid more :-( What makes this sooooooooo interesting? http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...E:B:ONA:DE:1123
