    1. Would still be interested to see if the 3rd did indeed wear the Tschacko or if the pic you posted was an officer who transfered in... From what i can see, in 1915 the Bavarian J?gers of the Alpenkorps lost the Tschako, wearing field hats in the Tirol and Serbia. Then steel helmets and floppy hats from 1916 on. I would imagine the Tschako was worn back in Germany and in the ersatz Batln. The 3rd Regt was created during the war in a time when the "classic" J?gers were getting rid of the Tschako.... Is there a history of the 3rd with pics in it? Best Chris
    2. I will leave the 3rd well alone :-) The first is where my heart is.... I had to move a bit of nice stuff to get these, me be a happy boy indeed... :-)
    3. WOW! How about a lesson in what all those medals are... I recognise.... two.... (Blush)
    4. I have a minnie side collection of pinback crosses... When I see one cheap I take it... I deliberatley limit myself to pinbacks because I dont want to spend much and the screwbacks are toooo much moolah. Does anyone else set boundries to how they collect EK1s? Best Chris
    5. The elite 10th R.D. on the Aisne... http://www.kaiserscross.com/60401/60643.html
    6. Basically the same hat without the stiffener and a slight "crush" added... Apparently the style most collectors look for ;-)
    7. Finally, the visor hat that with the exception of some microscopic moth damage is a mint one. Apparently the fact that it still has its stiffening wire and does not have the floppy "field" turned a couple of buyers away. In a way I would have prefered the Field look as well, I guess this one spent the war in a Cupboard as the wearing traces are very minimal....
    8. Already in the Tirol in 1915 the Tschakos lost ground to field hats, in 1916 they fell away to the Steelhelmet and I assume were only worn back home on leave or on duty away from the front... This hat, from the stamps, was issued in late August 1916 to the J?gers of the Alpenkorps who were resting anf refitting in the XVI Korps sector after suffering tremendous losses at Verdun...
    9. The officer that wore the Tschako pictured fought in the Tirol, Serbia and Verdun before transfering to the 31 Bavarian Inf regt.
    10. to "cover" the Bavarian J?gers.... First off... a Reserve officer who served in the 2nd J?ger Batln....
    11. Indeed. In Pretoria a few years ago I saw a Legion Condor KIA group that came from the family with a round three marked 22 on the pin. 10 points to Marshall :-)
    12. Lets see if anyone else pipes up first... Its a memory test... I posted a maker marked round three EK2 some time ago.... :-)
    13. A very early photo, soom after the Edelweisses were issued.... See the different ways of wearing it before they settled on wearing it on the left side.. Guy on the right has two badges...
    14. Hi, according to the Alpenkorps history, the Austrians gave them 20 000 of these badges. I assume that was the initial lot, and maybe guys added and changed and found others as they went along? I would guess that there must be variations and that they were all roughly the same size and form, but not all exact matches with badges from another maker? Here is one I cannot date, it is well travelled, has crossed the atlantic twice ;-) Traces of the original silver on the back... I am assuming it is WW1 Austrian issue, it was found in Bavaria, so maybe used by te Alpenkorps? Or maybe civilian, although I assume civilian associations have some initials on them like the D OE V ?
    15. Just to see who remembers..... Who made it? Best Chris

    19. Hi, no, you could be a Reiter but still not have met the qualifications for the Reiter badge... same way you could be a rifleman and still not have the Marksmann Lanyard. All the best Chris
