Sen Conrad's Statement on the Stolen Valor Act
Chris Boonzaier replied to JBFloyd's topic in United States of America
OK... a technical question.... Flak88 photographed these guys at a show.... they are collectors as well... Safe, or go directly to jail? -
Ohhh no... we don't want that ! Reminds me of the time in the 80s when a West Indian cricketer was invited to play in South Africa for a club. This left the Govt scratching their heads... obviously there where many places he could not go and things he could not do. In a move that was painfully clumsy, even by the standards of the govt of the time... they solved the problem by declaring him an "Honorary white person".... Just wear trousers and brylcream your hair whenever you log on to the forum and we will simply consider you one of the gang.

Take it from someone who wore a white top for 5 years.... a fixed white top is the pits.... I used to be very jealous of the guys in the old days who hade removable tops on their Kepis...

Can you do a clearer scan of the gun? The tripod looks like the ones that are coming surplas from Turkey...

A really good close up... The problem is... I ebayed them with the pics as seen... they cost me EUR160 If you say "Ahhh, EUR120 would be tops..." I will groan and pay the EUR160. If you say "Ain't worth squat" I will cry and plead with the seller. If the consensus is... original, but the backings are missing... then I will probably go ahead and buy, basically I am the fool who did not make sure of what he bid on....

OK, A last hot before I get ma first EBAY negative... Can we assume that the fact the boards are so big points to them being made to have all the thingies on them? Would look pretty barren for a regular major? Can we assume that they are indeed original but missing the backing? If so, what do you think a good price for them is? I am hoping they are indeed original but without backing... There seems to be some red thread traces here...

Mongolia Anniversary and Award Medals
Chris Boonzaier replied to Ed_Haynes's topic in People's Republic Mongolia
Make it three... Did the seller know it was a low number or did that not interest him? -
After his armies suffered terrible losses on the Chemain des Dames and on the Aisne during his spring offensives in 1917 General Nivelle was relieved of his command. Petain took over. After the mutinies which had broken out in the army had been crushed Petain set out to take the offensive once again. It was to be a limited offensive lasting from the 23rd to 26th of October and it took place in the La Malmaison area to the west of the Chemain des Dames Henri Cuillerier was a Grenadier in the 288th Regiment d'infanterie. The Regiment was part of the 67th Division and was on the extreme right flank of the offensiive. On the 23rd of October the Regiment advanced towards the chapel of Sainte-Berthe where it was met with heavy German machinegun fire. Their advance bogged down on the 24th and only on the 25th did it gain momentum when the neighbouring 66th Division (on their left flank) overcame heavy resistance and took Pargny-Filain, then in conjunction with the 67th Division proceeded to take the chapel of Sainte-Berthe. On the 26th of October the two Divisions took the town of Filain. The direct result of the offensive was that the southern bank of the Ailette river was now in French hands. After they lost the territory known to them as the "Laffaux Ecke" the Germans could no longer hold their positions on the Chemain des Dames. They withdrew from their positions in an orderly fashion on the night of the 1st-2nd of November 1917. Petain's limited offensive was a success, not only for what it achieved on the battlefield, but also for what it did for French Morale. On the 11th of November 1917 Lieutenant-Colonel Jasienski approved the awarding of the Croix de Guerre (at regimental level) for Henri Cuillerier. The citation was as follows: A brave and disciplined soldier, he was wounded by schrapnell while mounting guard. The exact date of Cuillerier's wound is not given, but it would have been around the time the regiment was engaged in the fighting at La Malmaison or in the weeks that followed as the French prepared their new positions.

Seeing the moth eaten state of the back of the straps, it may be that someone pulled the remains of the backing off to make it "neater" ? Dang... if they were provably bad then i could get out of the sale, the seller guarantees originality, but it would have to come from a technicality other than what I can see on the photos above...
