    1. Does not look like much, I almost past it up, but ugly and plain as t is, liverpool medals has it priced above many of the prettier ones. I assume it is also a "Smiling at the king" award.
    2. I assume a merit award. This is the pre Vietnam war era one, there are two older versions. The Bronze comes up from time to time,. I found two of them. One "antique" dealer said the silver ones are super rare.
    3. It is silver and enamle. would probably look killer if polished, but I tend to leave it this way. the back is flat with no design
    4. A vacation find... I have no idea what had to be done to get it... maybe smile at the king. I think it is civilian, no chance of getting any ribbon....
    5. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6217693.stm Skip past thwe Rod Stewart part... you can see the new badge for civilian wear down the bottom...
    6. ...unless you own one.... then it is a 12th SS Normandy pattern panzer jacket :-)
    7. I think this must be THE elite unit of the war from the german side.... maybe partially because of their fame but also for their time in Verdun.
    8. OK.... Dans was really, really nice...... But here we go..... EK1 to an officer of Sturmbataillon Nr. 5 "Rohr" with a special print for the unit and a real "Rohr" signature..... Anyone want to advance on that :-)))))))))))
    9. Was Herr authorised to award this at all? I did not think an AOK could award a DKiG at all... and the wording is that he himself is awarding it and not that the doc is being issued to confirm that the OKW had already made the award.
    10. Well, just overpaid for the Order of the Reign of Savang Vatthana (I have the bronze and Silver... the seller said one silver to 100 bronze.... but I have no idea) And a Order of civic merit. no ribbons, but nice to buy them **In Country** Watch this space for pics :-)
    11. Mine looks similar to yours..... Will scan it when I get home... are you sure its bad? French medal quality is not always great,
    12. Great thread... great items... great info !!!!!
    13. Absolute "Killer" for want of a better word..... A Schrapnel wound on the 30th June 1916.... I wonder if that could have just by coincidence been part of the last barrage before something along the lines of...... the first day of the Somme.... for instance dig a bit deeper... you will find it is historically very interesting...
    14. Hi, I think the policemen were released in 1915 already to continue doing their work? Am away from my books, so cannot confirm.
    15. I just picked up one of these in Cambodia.... anyone know what they were awarded for and the value? It is for my "picked up on Holidays" frame. I found this Thai one and two Cambodian ones.
    16. Hi, have no photo, medal is a largish silver oval with kings head.. has bar above with inscrition and under that a crossed sword and scepter of some sort... and ideras.. thanks] cjhris
    17. Well, its arrived !!!!!!!!! But I am in Cambodia at the moment so I cannot post any pictures.... You will have to wait until I get back after Christmas.... but keep going... one of the guesses was very, very, close.....
    18. I think Gordon knew who made this fake, I lost the emails and details on my old hard drive though...
    19. OK, I am leaving on vacation.... so I guess I gotta shed a tear..... I will have to wait until i am back to see it...... it will probabyl arrive in the mail later this week :-(((((((((
    20. I must get better snaps, but I have 2 engraved Purple hearts to a guy from Vietnam.
    21. Covered, but no pics yet is the Boer Ribbon for wounds
    22. That is indeed a nice one!!! Minenwerfer are second only to machinegun units on my Favourites list when it comes to buying EK docs :-)
    23. A very unusual EK doc.... the Divisions and regimental orders reproduced as an EK doc, probably for each member of the patrol he was on. What is interesting to note, all the members of the patrol are listed, but the man in question, his name is seperate from the others. Either he was the onlyone to get the EK for the action... or they went to the troupble of personalising the document for each member of the patrol the recipient getting a doc where HIS name was separate from the bunch.
    24. Hi, it seems the mask tin was always that colour, no trace of green unberneath it. As for the helmet color, the seller said this is the really, really early colour, and they were darker green later in the war. best Chris
