    1. The details are much nicer, but the glass makes the shot difficult :-( Dont know imperial uniforms, but he was in a cavalry regt in Saarbr?cken
    2. How often do you see a period photo of an OR wearing an 1870 cross, as opposed to a greyhair taken years and years later ?
    3. The interest value must be more than an EK2 or something?
    4. Here is a strange one indeed... A document made out to "Kanonier unged. Ldst. Eugen Caspar der 8.(F)/Res.Felda.Rgt.5......" Can it be "ungediente Landsturm" ? and would the (F) refer to the type of Gun used in the Arty Batterie? Feldartillery had field guns and light field howitzers, usually there is no mention in the award doc, but here they have an "F" and I can only think that it has to do with that....
    5. In 1996, Gouws submitted an amnesty application to the Truth And Reconciliation Commission in which he admitted involvement in a host of crimes. Among the incidents for which he later received amnesty were: Between 40 and 60 petrol bombings of political activists' houses in Mamelodi, Atteridgeville, Soshanguve, Oukasie , Pietersburg, Tembisa and Ekangala in 1986; A car bombing in 1986 that claimed the life of KwaNdebele homeland Cabinet minister and ANC activist Piet Ntuli; An arson attack on the home of Mamelodi doctor Fabian Ribiero in March 1986. No one was home at the time. Ribiero and his wife Florence were subsequently assassinated by a Security Branch death squad; The deaths of at least nine young Umkhonto weSizwe recruits who were shot to death before their bodies were set alight in KwaNdebele in July 1986; and The extrajudicial murders of five would-be bank robbers - among them a former driver for Winnie Mandela - who were lured into a trap by the Vlakplaas unit near Nelspruit on March 26 1992. Down in South Africa there is a lot of talent, that just cannot get jobs in the country nowdays.... http://www.sandline.com/hotlinks/Chicago_T...erc_strain.html http://www.truthout.org/cgi-bin/artman/exe...ew.cgi/37/10226 http://www.suntimes.co.za/2004/02/01/news/news07.asp http://www.ocnus.net/cgi-bin/exec/view.cgi...ve=65&num=16946
    6. It was the hill 304 bit, was suprisingly easy to clean compared to the other bits, maybe it was the clay that saved it.
    7. They would be better than the NATO or UN ones.... if Queeny did not look like the grandmother in the Giles Comic with an extra large chamber pot on her head. Check out the evolution of regents heads on British medals in the last 150 years, the head gets smaller and the crown gets bigger.... with the new lot it has reached a point that when I see them I can only think "Man... thats one BIG motherfckn crown !!!"
    8. I guess I am a bit accident prone.... it drives the wife crazy. I have 3 fingers in wrapped in plasters at the moment with a special cream to suck the dirt out of wound.... mix rust, concentrated vinegar and oil and it does make a mess of a cut....
    9. You kidding? My hands are scrathed and scared, the iron brush has lost a lot of bristes, but with 3 litres of vinegar, an ron brush and an opinel as rust Cutter/Chipper, I have had some wonderful results. Will get pics up in a few days.
    10. Well, you never know... the way the EU is expanding... maybe the next EU summit will be in Kabul
    11. Hi Jacques... why is the Afghan clasp not on an Outre Mer? And what is the middle one on the top row?
    12. Looks like a nice nipple ;-) I am guessing, but maybe a minenwerfer?
    13. Same as every other time the Brits went in to "sort them out".... or the Russkies....
    14. I think you will be hard pressed to find a guy with more post 36 medals this this guy...
    15. What is the green made of? I just saw a programm about mining a precious stone that looked the same colour.
    16. Today everyone wants the lates Mobile telephone with the most advanced features... I am sure there was a KMST designer who, as long as he designed, was able to stay away from the front or something. he designed these, which were probably expensive crosses, and a few shows offs used to buy them to show what nice crosses they had. but I am sure they cost more than average and the average soldier was happier to spend less on one with a simple pin, which he could put on and take off, even when drunk, which with a KMST must have been difficult. And here we are in 2006, still lots of makers use pins..... and where is KMST ?.....
