    1. Some googling shows there were foreign observers underway at Waterloo...
    2. IGgy beat me to it.... maybe he was the Batman for an attached officer observer?
    3. Maybe the (Obs) means he was an Observer? Did such a thing exist back then? In the Boer war (for instance) a number of countries had officers attached simply to observe the actions...
    4. ;-) Battalion is just sooooo much superior to Regimental ones ;-) There are actually a few different kinds used by the jäger Battalion, this one known as a "tree stump" Krug and is the more sought after type (so I am told)... Photos and details to follow :-)
    5. I just read up on this... an insanely rare and desirable knife! Apparently this is the SOE variation... the US had an OSS one, but with 2 large rivets.
    6. I said earlier all the above were wrong, IGgy had said a Regimental Stein.... :-)
    7. This is a little piece I call "space filler" ..... :-)
    8. ETA... I hope... is tomorrow.... I will be very pedantic and say, noone has guessed right just yet......
    9. Naaahhh.... that was a nice bonus, but no reason to get drunk for joy.....
    10. Here is one I never knew existed... and am really surprised it was not used in large numbers... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winchester_Model_1907
    11. With a service number could it rather be an "other rank"?
    12. I have been shaving with cutthroats for the last 3-4 years.... I really like them....
    13. I think probably more practicle.... I imagine they are climbing around in ships, trucks, containers.... very easy to hit your noggin on a bulkhead or door frame... and not so easy with a peaked cap... Maybe they keep the peaked caps for parades or something.... German boder police also have an everyday uniform with peaked cap and a dirty work uniform with beret...
    14. I assume this falls under Police? It has a "inner" hat, which I think is more for protecting your head against bumps when crawling around looking for hidden illegals... a pretty good invention... we have all painfully hit our heads at some stage....
    15. Just picked up this framed Photo of a guy from the 2nd Bavarian Jäger Battalion. From the other 2 i have seen, these were wartime, bought by the men for the family back home, a standard print with the guys face stuck on it... USUALLY the top has "Weltkrieg 1914-15" and the bottom has the guys name and 2nd bavarian jäger Battalion... In this case some idiot trimmed it, removed the name so it could fit in the frame.....
    16. I can't... :-( If I say what it is before it arrives... the post office will loose it :-(
    17. I wish... but it will never be.... Will be putting a beer in the fridge to celebrate its arrival... :-)
    18. No, but now that you mention it..... with this item I really, really should get one.... Breaking and entering could REALLY be breaking with this!!!!
