    1. Hi, the baseline hobby philosophy of the hobby is "buy the piece, not the story" having said that, i have soooo many pieces that DO have a story, and it is the story that makes the piece. I am really into the history and the men behind the pieces, so I put a lot of value on that, and I don't think I am gullible... but there are certain items I have that are rock solid with their stories. The problem is passing them on one day.... At some stage the story gets lost forever...
    2. Hi Pete, another of our members has a few other docs belonging to him, He certainly did get around!!!
    3. Very nice indeed... and there is certainly no shortage of fine quality studio photo postcards to illustrate them... Nice cases as well!
    4. Its like watching a train wreck happening.... fake inside and a simple postcard stuck inside the lid... and at EUR116 at the moment !?!?!?! Where do they find brain dead buyers like this???? http://www.ebay.de/itm/Prasentationsetui-fur-Eisernes-Kreuz-Abzeichen-Orden-Ehrenzeichen-Etui-ek-vwa-/140981125273?pt=Militaria&hash=item20d3214099
    5. I think if rennes then Frontstalag 221... http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/Kriegsgefangenenlager/Frontstalag.htm
    6. I think you nailed it.... most of them were in france in 1940-41.... the letters on the bottom would be a French place name i think
    7. Thats really interesting. The Korps seems to have been following a couple of others who did not issue docs until orders were given to do so at the beginning of 1916. I assume he got an EK, Went missing/Died and the doc was automatically issued from a list in 1916 and sent to the family. Thanks for the info!
    8. Does anyone have any further variations to offer? Even if variations shown above?
    9. In late 1917 the task of awarding the EKs seems to have been transfered from the Armeekorps to the Divisional commanders as of this date they are issued at divisional level...
    10. An EK1 to a Lt d. Res. from October 1917, also Armeekorps level...
    11. This one is hard to explain, also a 1916 doc for a 1915 award... but the man seems to have been in the 2nd garde reserve Regt at the time of the award... an anamolly...
    12. There are a number of variations on these... They seem to have appeared in early 1916, backdated for earlier awards... like this October 1914 award.... Armeekorps Level Doument
    13. Maybe the photo, but the qwuality is terrible.... usually the stuff minted in England was fantastic in quality. best Chris
    14. Plenty of Luftwaffe medics attached to Luftwaffe units in Russia etc... no reason to think he was attached to the army?
    15. Hi Allen, You must hit the "More reply options" button, and it allows you to add pics... I find Jpegs best. All the best Chris
    16. very nice! The only one I hae seen that I like better was unit stamped.
    17. For me a piece that has a name and a history is worth waaaay more than a simple "minter" piece. This man was close to the "power" ... i would love to have a jacket like this!!!
