    1. I dont know this guys history.... but the soft goat leather wallet and in this style say North Africa to me.....
    2. Wow... I'll say! What a fantastic find! What does a "9" cost on the open market?
    3. I think Don hits the nail on the head, he was more or less a quiet professional because he was in the shadow of Hindenburg.... Lets keep this 100% politics free, but look at him, and look at Karl Rove ... the man Bush called "The architect"... these guys have something in comman... they look a bit like a slug... have super brains... can organise and plan... but will always be the brains in the background, they know this and dont try and become the poster boy... Agreed, post war he tried to reinvent himslef... but once again, he just did not have the "X-Factor" that would make him a proper "leader"... He was a 100% Militarist, but so were many. I think few officers were middle of the road moderates in the post war time... He also had the opportunity to jump on the Nazi bandwaggon and did not, other than a bit of dabbling at the beginning... I am happy with these, they are more than a postcard signed for someone, the Lüttich print is a real piece of history. Best Chris
    4. I like the Blue LH tropical uniform... I used to have one with Blue belt and Y straps... pretty hard to find...
    5. Die gefährlichste aller Weltanschauungen ist die Weltanschauung der Leute, welche die Welt nicht angeschaut haben.

    6. Many, many medals on the wrong ribbon over the last 100 years or so.... Have even seen Vets mount their own medals with the ribbons on the wrong medals....
    7. Hmmmmm.... "May you be with the Police" can mean many different things to many different people... some good, some bad!
    8. The soldbuchs are pretty scarce, i had a few but cannot remember there being any award entries. Not to say the men did not have awards, a number must have had kvk etc. But it is very possible they got it outside of the volksturm and because the units probably did not have the same admin experiance as regular units that these aeards were never entered.
    9. Pretty cool job, spend your day drinking wine and call yourself a researcher ;-)
    10. Another Rohr thing.... The first reunion was in 1937... full of Heil Hitlers and Hitler Youth escorts, thanking the Führer etc. etc.... then it faded away and there is little mention of Rohr in the Tradition of the army... I read somewhere that he was half Jewish... oh the Irony!!!! Can anyone confirm that Hitler had to swallow the fact that one of Germanys finest Stormtroopers was not an Aryan? Maybe it is also to do with that that it took 25 years to make Major? Even the Kaisers army was slightly Racist... Best Chris
    11. When my first Epson broke I went into town and bought a canon.... finally got it to work, and saw it could not scan badgess, took it back, got another name brand... ditto... took it back and saw an Epson on sale ... and grabbed it! I use it and Irfanview to scan then crop right away.... peeeeeeerfect!
    12. Hi, Strangely enough no. For the Greatfrandfather just the Wehrpass entry, for the Maternal Grandfather, almost all his docs, but not this one (just Soldbuch entry), and for the Patenal one his Wehrpass is empty, but just an entry on his denazification papers that he had it, and when we were leaving today I happened to see the ribbon poking out of a dish on a bookshelf, so I managed to get it.
    13. Sorry, i just saw this was the scanner topic... I have an old 640U which creaks and groans when it scans, but I think all epson work that well. Best Chris
    14. My perfections are many, I blush to say it aloud. My whole life long women have followed me... just the rumour of how perfect I am drove them wild. I must admit, I am getting older... but am still perfect... at least... thats what all the chicks say....
    15. Well known... Epson Perfection... all the way.... you can also do 3d badge scans....
    16. Just a note, he was from September 1942 by the Luftschutzpolizei as a Baubefehlsleiter beim Abschnitt Nord in Munich, with duties Katastropheneinsatz...
    17. He beca<me a building engineer and had a Paper exempting him from being called up during the war... according to his denazification papers, the only association he was in was the DAF! But he did serve during bombing raids and got this...
    18. He joined in August 1914.... How is that for early!!!! Was in the 4th Railway Regt until the end of the war... Got a participant cross, not a Frontkämpfer...
