Thanks Don and Darrel, Thats very interseting, I'm more than likely barking up the wrong the tree Still Darrel, you have a nice set then, earlier style box and earlier WB wub.gif Note also on Darrels box the external base of the box, see how the outer covering is a different outer covering.......its an incoperated different outer covering unlike 99% of the later or later war boxes of any award in box (Not Luft, that I know off) which if with this addition to detail would be applied lastly it appears and more often than not significantly differnt material to the rest of the box. This material, along with velour, and brushed pile velour paper and other was to used inside the box to cover the area visible through the slit in the box and covered the catch too. I'm probably not makeing to much sense and when I get the medals out of the secure place, I'll take some pic's and show you what I mean. Kr Marcus

It's a nice earlier KB box, earlier in the regard of a chronological sense of maunfacture, the next design in the KB series appears to have a flatter lid and differnt catch make-up (both catches relate to earlier and later variants in other boxes by KB). Not really much in them, just a few minor things I've noted. Of course then you the mulitude of 629 base cardboard boxes, I don't have my files open but there's around 14 variants in the KB range, generic and contract purpose boxes. Whats nice about Darrels is the condition of the box. On the badge, well as we're all basically from the WAF, Chris V has said the thin pin versions are somewhat later and the broad pin earlier. I'm not to sure on this, as I know of two examples documented in groups that are thin pinned and were issued in 1940 & 1941. I don't know ???? Does anyone else ?

Oh my god, typical Yank beat the Brit's to it, is that the one we went to when it was closed jumping -
Hi Tony, My black case is what I deem as a wartime production case, 'mushroom' button and the tip painted black. I've three other examples like this, an orange-red, and deep red....all 'wartime production in mind. Now as for this mottled case, yes I believe it is acceptable to this widow cross in there. The medals were never (wrong word that really......SELDOM issued in the case, the odd bestowal appears to have been granted) The case was private purchase and bought by the recipient seperately...that was the guideline and criteria for the incipient issue and to my knowledge from recorded data, the only premise thus to base anything on further. So I would personally accept this pair as genuine. The tortoise case as with another red style, you can see it in the pic just I showed...are earlier versions and deem these personally as pre war, the make-up includeing the catch type suggest this to me, along with the outer covering being of a type used on a flowers war box too. Just my own ideals here, nothing gospel though. Kr Marcus The tortoise does come with a catch or not and varying colour scheme's for the rayon silk lineing. Just a personal though, that these are indeed earlier in this series of box. Mines a bit tatty, you can just see visible the earlier red case to the right of this one.

I was a student and 55 quid, was three months fuel for the battered car and months night out on the beer ! Come to think of it I was on 30 quid a month at that time ! Value now is only the wifes interest not mine ! -

Post #3 Ricky, I've seen him in silent films I'm sure if it His Guards Badge has no designation on it ? Why is that ? Kr Marcus -
Hi guys, This was once posted on the WAF, with little or no deliberation.....no one could decide in the two or three posts dedicated to it, if it were real or not. The pin and hinge do not prescribe to this maker, nor does it affiliate with known fakes to my knolwedge, for two years I've searched the fakes of these badges and can't find a similar one..oringinal or fake to that matter ? I'm not botherd entirely if it's deduced original or not, I would like informed comments on it though, if it is fake all the more better for our hobby and one to be aware of, if genuine, or supported in though to perhaps be.......all the more better for me of course She can take her place in the collection proper. It's a heavy old thing, and can only deduce it's metal as brass, the pin I don't think so, as I'm sure I can see a base metal under the gilt colour. Weight, I've neglected to measure if thats a matter. Any comments or thoughts very welcome and thank you for looking. Kr Marcus
