Republican Emission Bulgarian Orders
Graf replied to Graf's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Hi Steve, After the Soviets entered Bulgaria a new Regime was established The country switched sides and went to fight Germany. This was the Republican Period 1944 1946. During this period many of the Documents were issued with the new format and text. They were the first prototype of the early Documents of the new Socialist System that was established The republican period could be considered as transitional period I am not a big fan of this period and that reflected in my collecting I hope some of the Bulgarian members can add more information Regards I noticed that the two Awards Booklets has a difference reflecting the period that they were issued On top of my Document on the front cover page it is written Ministry of the War On your Document the text is Ministry of NO ( NO stands for Narodna Otbrana which translated to People Defense) Thus indicates later period Socialist Period -

Hi Uwe, This Case could be considered as Republican Period as well During the Regency period they used mainly the cases from the King Boris period The inset looks like it is to accommodate a cross with a crown, however such cases were used for the Republican Period as weii The reason is that they used left overs cases and added the new cover for the lid for the republican period The fourth line states "with swords above" That mean that the case is for a 4th Class- Officer with sword above the cross I have similar case however I have to look for it Here is the picture of the Cross from the Republican period There was not much difference between the Sta Alexander Crosses between the King Boris period and the regency. The Only difference was with the crosses with swords above the cross During the regency the Crown has arms -like this 5th Class on the second picture on the picture -on the very bottom on the left

Hi Steve, yes it is nice contribution to the topic The Orders for Bravery are typical Republican Emission ones The Medal for Merit from this period appears with wreath and without it. The most important feature is the central medallion on the front with lion without a crown Some Orders from this period come with and without wreath, like the 5th Class of the Order for Civil Merit you listed. Some Commanders for the Order for Civil Merit also come without wreath ....and also reported Commander of the Order of St Alexander given to a Soviet Union General -
