Need a little help on bring some ligth on to this medal....I believe it is a napoleonic eagle but do not know of what period/empire, it is made of silver (with marks on the handle), but the rest I do not know!!!!Any help here???

Before of the creation of the ISN the medal that was awarded for this kind of acts was the Maria II medal for Philantrophy & Merit...

A short curious story about this medal is the one about one of our queens Dª Maria Pia wife of king Louis I that received a same identical medal for a bravery act on saving the two royal princes from drowning on the Mexilhoeiro beach on October 1873...

Here is a picture of one of those medals, from my collection:
and a picture taken at the time of a group of some of the soldiers involved on the attempt rebelion on board of one of the ships (the India) that toke them on their way to a forced exile...
later, when the republic was installed some of them (those who survived) would received this medal in memory of their act...
