    1. Very interesting Larry! If either of these jackets turned up today the 'mob' would say they had been upgraded no doubt, just goes to show! Jock
    2. Guys, I may have come across a bit too jovial about the local interest. I can be a bit too keen at times. None of us were there, except Bernhard and I may have been a bit unsensative or flipant in my post. That was not the intension it is just that so many aircrew on both sides suffered a lot as did the population at large. It is a subject that I always find moving as we have localy many downed air crew that are buried together and I think it is a nice touch that the headstones are placed together as a crew compaired to the others that are interned singley. I am pleased this Crewman lived through the war and the cold war. Best Regards Jock
    3. I think I would not have cleaned it personally ?! That is if it is even the same badge? Jock
    4. Just goes to show there is not much you can't fix with a Gerber or a cheap knock off. Balls of steel mixed with a bit of complacancy, it will catch him out one day, I hope not but I think I might win the loto first! very interesting. Cheers jock
    5. Paul, No idea, both have only an air gap now but who knows if and what what was used in the war? Sorry?? Jock
    6. Bernhard, I think Hamburg and certainly Dresden are the two results folk don't like to talk about too much on our side of the fence. Saying that the aircrew only carried out their sorties as directed, they most definately didn't choose the strategy or the target. I posted on here a while back a Hannover newspapers response to some air attacks where a family lost some members. I can't find the paperwork as it is boxed and I can't find the thread to see if the sorties coinside with the dates. Saying that Hannover must have had many visits from the allied airforces. Jock
    7. Perhaps Public Records Office? What a nice group with the log books and all. It is interesting for me that he visited localy, Hannover, Braunchwieg and the rocket site at Pienmunde. Great stuff! Jock
    8. Larry, It looks like it is hand stiched from the top part anyway. I also noticed a 4 Coy button on his shoulder now that I have zoomed in, amazing what you miss in a hurry! jock
    9. Guys, As stated above. Has still got a bit of a throw back to the war with the flaps that can be turned down? Jock
    10. Guys, From yesterday, there is a section on flight navigation as well. There are some tables that are stored at the back of the book detailing typical weather conditions for time of year etc. Looks complicated. Makes one appreciate GPS. Jock
    11. Gordon, I only took them as they were reasoably priced and I thought I may be able to swap them? I am having a bit of a marine week as it goes with a couple of KM books on navigation today and a set of shoulder augulete things like in your first picture, i am just trying to work out when they are from? I also got another KM seesack in mint condition in trhe lighter brown sail cloth like the army bread bags. I shall post it all up tomorrow. Jock
    12. Yes that is my favourite too (Afrika), I think he may be Marine looking at the buttons, if so it would have been nice to see which version of the cuff band he was wearing. Jock
    13. Bernhard, For sure but often these soldiers remains are cast aside for the 'loot' that is their personal effects at the time by the less scruplious diggers and there are plenty of them? By repatriation I meant recognition and burial in a grave as they deserve, as any soldier deserves if found on the battlefield? Jock
    14. Kev, I am sure it will be at some point by the sheer amount of 'black diggers', whether it is repatriated is another question. Jock
    15. Guys, Not much about today but these have been hanging around and the bloke let them go cheap. I would not have bothered but the new book I got from Robert Noss was helpful and let me ID these for what they were. Note the blokes name tag etc. Jock
    16. Larry, here are the pics sadly you can't see the waffensamt and I can't get to it right now as the doors to that cellar are blocked with boxes. It has it's liner though!
    17. Larry, I am fairly happy it is second war as I have another more or less identicle but it is waffenamt marked. The only difference is the other has had a mod on it to add a small pipe that would have been some sort of overflow? I thought I had posted it here but it was on another forum. The other to watch out for is the DDR version which now have a bit of age to them. Jock
    18. Still looking to swap stuff!

    19. Guys, Not much doing today, just a couple of enameled HJ and a treff badge from 1937. Jock
    20. Guys, These from today! Seems there was a department for everything. Don't know what the last thing is about with the girl in the picture? Jock
    21. Guys, These two are nice as well, no awards etc but two clear pictures of two young lads. Jock
