    1. Nice to get a pair Alec, likey been together a while do you think?
    2. sorry can't make it out either, I have the same books and a couple of others in the series that show portriat pics of soldiers faces in battle. I also have some A4 art prints of a military nature with sketches and oils etc, I will have a hunt at the weekend and see if I can find them. Jock
    3. Eric-Jan, Thanks again for the detail, I will let you know if I find his name, I am going to ask the source if he can find it. Cheers jock
    4. Eric, The last of the non holiday snaps that are interesting-ish. I suppose if this is all that remains from his estate spanning a marine career then it will remain a jigsaw as such, he must have served on more than one boat I guess, if I had his name it would be more useful! best regards jock
    5. Eric-Jan, Does that boat number fit with a visit to spain during the civil war? (edit clearly not a quick search has revealed)! I wonder which German vessels were in port at the time of the civil war, I will try that line. I will have a look myself as there is online a U-Boat site that deals with each boat but it is not very detailed at times. Dates and places can always be wrong I suppose, looking at the style of writing it is a post war note? Cheers Jock
    6. I hope its his mum, if its his girlfriend he is just not trying hard enough!
    7. Tony, Its not bright lights and night life but ony 40km from Hannover 45mins from Hamburg/Bremen and Berlin is only 300km. You can cover distance here very quickly not like the UK. Lots of small villages and plenty of characters out there, sadly though that generation is starting to fade away. Some don't mind talking about it some do, either way I try not to press them or offend them. I am from Kilmarnock, Bellfield scheme so it does not have the same appeal as Germany. If I have to choose where to be poor it would be here. Jock
    8. Tony, I have built a house here so it is home now, this is the longest I have ever been in one place. Here to stay, one way or another!
    9. Couple of black and white! Jock
    10. A few more from the weekend. Jock
    11. Eric, Sorry that really is the best I can do, my scanner is quite old and 600dpi is its best, I have tried with the USB microscope but it is just making me angry and is a worse image. Sorry!
    12. Guys, A few portrates, nothing fancy but clear prints. There are 3 doubles (see pics) if anyone has any doubles they would want to swap. Jock
    13. Eric, I have done this as 600dpi, thats the best I can do. I have no idea about the possibilities as I have no name and no probability of finding one since this came through the house clearance people in the Bremen area which means that it is likey his son/daughter is now also dead? The envelope is not in good condition and simply states Vater-Marine. Sorry not to be more helpful but you now know as much as me about him barring a few more pics. Cheers Jock
    14. Couple from the weekend. Last pair not trenches but the Kantine looks to be 'dug in' so fairly sharp? Last one, go any further and you will be shot!?
    15. Eric, Sadly only two have writting and no names, if these two pics are the same bloke then he was Adjt to Donitz it states on the rear of the larger picture (I think see pic)? I should look more carefully at things! Jock:)
    16. Mervyn, No is that here somewhere or is that another forum?
    17. Eric, Is it likey that it was the only U-Boat in port at the same time, if it helps the pic top left post 4 states return from patrol, greetings by Donitz 16/2/1942. I will put up some more pics this evening after work, they were all loose in a envelope the just stated 'Vater Marine' no name. Jock
    18. Guys, I like to pick up variants of these when I see them, this clearly for civilian use but looks to have a wartime 'prym' press stud, often civi stuff was bought and used by the individual servicemen. This is the first time I have seen this combination, quite clever! It could be pre or post war I suppose. Jock
    19. Guys, Bit of paper from yesterday, 3 shooting docs to one old timer, looks like he was a good shot! Jock
    20. Looks like it could be a flower of sorts?
    21. Just a thought but why is the blue so faded and the rest not so? Is there a technical reason that the blue ribbon fades quicker? Jock:)
    22. John, I shall give it a go tomorrow evening when the wife is finished with me as I have a list of chores/jobs.
