    1. Guys, I thought this looked German in cut but then the shoulder boards, collar and the obvious maker being French does not fit. Any ideas about time period, have the French copied the German WW2 Kradmelder cut and style? Thanks Jock:)
    2. Peter, thanks for the steer! It is dated 1940 but I presume still possible? Thanks again! Jock:)
    3. Paul, Have you had a good look at the chin strap, I got one a while back from a local scrappy and on later inspection it was unit marked at the top end, not immeadiately visable. I had this with a m40 as well. Maybe a Lufty thing? Jock:)
    4. Adler 1, I don't think a bright white six is very tactical? Perhaps used for training purpose with the squad numbered off? I am sure I have seen in some of the 'Riebert' type of books troops numbered off in this fashion to demonstrate location and function of the soldier at various stages of battle drill. I am sure it was in an artillery type service manual and I am buggered if I know where it is now, somewhere in the 'borg' that is my cellars. Just a thought and not based on any hard fact just faded memory! Jock:)
    5. Eric, Just a bit of fun! No grudge, life is too short? I will take your word for the meaning, that is what you called me! I always tell the truth, whats the point otherwise? I don't know for sure that the group was larger but if these bits survived you wonder where the rest is and I know the guy I got it from and he is ecanomical with the truth occasionaly because of his line of work. Just my paranoia perhaps! Best Regards Jock:)
    6. Patrick, I am being distracted right now just talking to local Germans, an American 4 engine bomber came down nearby also a 'nachtjager' all within 2ks or so, I am busy trying to find out more! I have also attended many an 11/11/ 1100hrs at our local Becklingen war cemetery, having walked the length and breadth of it, the whole thing is sad especially those killed in the dying days but the other thing that stuck in my mind is that every so often you find 5 or 6 stones grouped closer together and then when you read the caption you reallize these are crew mates from downed planes buried together! One of my favourite films still is the 'Memphis Belle' the part about writing the families always gets me!! They must have balls of steel or just no choice either way they did it! Jock:)
    7. Eric-Jan, I was happy with the group but knowing the source he likes to please everyone and I cant help thinking that he has shifted the WP or SB. I know he often separates stuff to cater to individual needs and it is pure luck if you bag a complete lot. Thats the gamble! Still it was cheap and chearful. Regards Jokker:)
    8. Guys, I always pick these up as they are normally cheap and chearful! I think it is great that a town or community take the time to remember all the 'players', even when they came second! I have a few of these from both wars and they tend to have the same format of fallen, missing and participants. Jock:) PS, I havent cleaned it so it is still dirty.
    9. Patrick, I hope he survived but it is very much to the point, many didn't I suppose. Jock:)
    10. John, Thanks for the link, I do really like 'lexicon', it is great for tying down the detail. 17 Regt is local to me, sadly there is no name with the album so what you see is what you get so to speak, there are lots of pics but the later part of the album is the sort of pics one would buy at the 'kanteen' perhaps and as such no so interesting. I always thought those guys wore the skull and cross bones though? Jock:)
    11. Chris, Just been to your site. Well laid out. Do you get any TR stuff that you don't need? Are you in Germany? Regards Jock:)
    12. Guys, This is made from a shell case for a 4cm weapon system. Any ideas on the country of origin? Cheers Jock)
    13. Guys, Double post Sorry!!! Please delete. Thanks Jock:)
    14. Guys, Got this yesterday, nice and clean still in its cover! Some of the pics are of the Barracks at Belsen and one of part of them them being built! Parade is through Celle I think but I will have to do a bit more leg work. Jock:)
    15. Guys, Wife spotted this today after I had already missed it. God I hate it when she does that!!! Jock:)
    16. Guys, A tired old plate but I couldn't pass it up. That mix of religion and patriotism. Jock:)
    17. Guys, This is from the paperwork group to show in more detail in correct forum. Jock:)
    18. Guys, This one is dated 1936. No maker mark. Looks like it has been engraved so may be some sort of standard local anual prize? Any thoughts? cheers Jock:)
    19. Hucks, Thought you might like this group, checked on Lexicon and appears to be correct. I thought A.R. 1352 had been incorrectly entered but it seems it was so. His EK2 (65) and post war stickpin were with it. Jock:)
    20. Sooner the lads/lasses are home the better! Asking our troops to fight with one hand tied behind their back is a criminal abuse of the power wielded by corrupt spineless Governments that think only of votes and their carreers. Get them twats over there with their face in the dirt and then ask them what is a reasonable reponse to effective enemy fire while they their pants. I am glad the boy has been exonerated for making a good decision with sound judgement and minimum of reasonable force. They can always repair the tractor and the locals were aiding and abbetting a criminal. He could just have shot the lot and really given them something to debate. Jock:)
    21. Guys, Reduced the size and here they are. I believe from one family as 'Otto' is marked on a couple and the U-Boat theme is present on the DAF pic. Jock:)
    22. Guys, I am unfamiliar with the police policy and rank structure. I did not intend to imply the guy was not good enough for promotion or any such thing. I was hoping it was a personal choice for him which it would appear to be? The last two officers that dealt with grenades sadly died and I thought his bravery may have been recognised one way or another, thats all. In contrast if you are not ambitious these days within the UK armed forces (Army or Defence Force these days) the 'scythe' can be quite quick and ruthless. Not seen these days are the 22 year Gunner , Pte , Sapper, etc that were ever present characters in my day. We also never promoted on time served at the NCO rank, occasionaly it was explained to me that 'Officers' were 'sacked' with promotion in that the hope they would reach a level where they could do no damage due to the large and efficient staff below and they had no influence as such or could be easily directed. I think our Police Force do a fantastic job in difficult times on a tight budget. Of course I will disagree if they pull me next week for driving like I'm on the Autobahn! Jock:)
    23. The soldiers prayer The soldier stood and faced his God Which must always come to pass... He hoped his shoes were shining Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and Said,"No, Lord, I guess I ain't... because those of us who carry guns can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays and at times my talk was tough, and sometimes I've been violent, because the streets are awfully tough. But, I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got just too steep, And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear, And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here... They never wanted me around except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand, I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand." There was a silence all around the throne Where the saints had often trod... As the soldier waited quietly, for the judgment of his God, "Step forward now you soldier, Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell." Jock:)
