    1. Jerry, I think you right as I can see where there have been paint chips near the rim, I would have thought that it is an old repaint job by the soldier though as I remember being made to paint mine in basic training, thank god for Kevlar! I also remember the poor Soldiers Under Sentence (SUS) had one of later models that was stripped to the steel and had to be kept shiny, ah, the good old days! Jock
    2. Mervyn, Sure no problem but if I can't give it away then it may not be a good prize? Perhaps I could throw in some WW1 postcards or books as a prize they may be of more interest to the bulk of the members? Jock
    3. Robin, Thanks for the pictures, I would imagine it would be very difficult to copy the 'quirky' poor quality of the originals, thats a bonus I suppose. Cheers jock
    4. Eddie, Robbin, Thanks for that, I will have a proper look at the WAF thing tomorrow and Robin are these all of the period or are ther any vetrans assosiation type stuff in there too? If not there are quite a lot to collect? Thanks again! jock
    5. Bernhard, No I got that, I just wasn't thinking outside the box with regards a trade/qualification type badge. I get it, he was qualified on rangefinding equipment for the guns, makes sense too I suppose. thanks again Jock
    6. Jerry, It is as you have described, I will try and shift the net for a better picture. Cheers Jock
    7. Guys, Got these today, Can't make out any shell markings on the 3s but the 4 is dated 1945 with a 1952 liner. The 3s have wartime liners (see pics). The 4 has been repainted with that horrible Gloss green we used to use on Gate Guns etc. Jock
    8. Bernhard, Thankyou for that I never thought about a trade patch. Cheers Jock
    9. Robin, Is there more than one version of the Kurland? I had not noticed before how wonky looking the letters are! Cheers Jock
    10. Paul if its pre war then I will swap the eagle for the smaller aluminium one with the droop tail, do you think? Jock
    11. Guys, In a Lufftwaffe Soldbuch, any ideas? Thanks Jock
    12. McDonald, Rick sadly died recently in an accident. I would suggest you direct your enquiries to the site owner, Nick whos username is in red. Further to above Ricks collection is being sold off there is a pinned thread at the top of his forum with the links to ebay, perhaps you could secure some of his collection and give it a good home, I understand those shot were not actually his though? Regards Jock
    13. Couple of books yesterday to a BDM lass. The smaller is a first for me! Jock
    14. Well if you find it Robin you maybe able to dispell the myth. I was wondering and did ask on WAF who it was that stated and prooved these type to be correct. No doubt the product of a book or the judgement of an expert? I think a better book would be to reprint all of the 'replicas' catalouges that can be found. Some of these old copies are looking their age and fool a lot of the newer colectors now. Jock
    15. Guys, With the top off and an eagle relaced. There appears to be a split pin that would attach to a flap on the cover to hold it in place? 15thpacav I will keep it I am sure, the unit marking states 37 I am thinking that may be the year as this is the second marked as such that I have, I don't think it is copied or enhanced as there is no point on a rucksack. Jock
    16. Robin, Thanks for that, the skull was supposed to be a SS cap skull. I will try and locate the thread and manualy copy the link as I can't post links. I don't suppose you have any of the old shots from the catalouge? Cheers Jock
    17. Robin, Is there anything similar to this setup that is of the period? I noticed on WAF recently something very close to that was passed as correct and is now accepted as late war? Sorry its an old thread but thanfully the pictures are still here. Cheers Jock
    18. Guys, yesterdays finds that are WW1 related. Like the third pic which is the reverse of the two patriotic cards, they are nicely marked. I think if the enemy captured your mail you would have a field day back then from an intelegence point of view. Jock
    19. Tony, We have an electric cooker, after my destruction of the bath and the wash basin by the MG project I am banned from trying to restore stuff inside the house (smell of the paint stripper was not pleasing for the wife). I will quit while I am ahead! Jock
    20. Guys, Got these this morning. Both the waterbottle and the rucksack are LBA marked. The messtin is a missmatched early war HRE37 and GLB39 lid. The unit marking on the shoulder straps is quite interesting, this is the second unit marked rucksack I have from the Luftwaffe. Unit: II/Boelcke 37 Jock
    21. Guys, I got this this morning, it was in a rucksack with a bottle and mess kit. There was also a US belt and bottle. I will put the field gear in the proper areas. It appears that you can remove the blue top to put on a summer white top at a guess? Waffenfarbe is signals I think without looking it up so I may be wrong? It looks like a lot of gear from the same guy and he was likely something to do with Boelcke squadron (markings on the rucksack see other post). I am liking the maker lable. His name is unfortunate 'Bohnsack', 'Beanbag', does that work as a literal translation? Jock
    22. Another one today, a well to do family with a few ribbon bars there. The photo company is HH Voigst from Frankfurt a M. Bad Homburg. Jock
    23. Bernhard, Thanks for the steer, I was joking a bit as I thought French was known as the langugage of love not war as demonstarted often in the past (love that is), just joking, just joking! Seriously though, if anyone wants the French one they can have it it as I can't read it (it has a lot of cool fold out maps etc), it is effort enough for anyone British to speak more than one language! Best Regards Jock
