Where can I find this Werner Nickel? How about just hosing yourself down and letting evaporation do the cooling? Stay cool---literally and figuratively...
I understand the Swedish Vasa Order was primarily a civilian award. The bar suggests some military service so can the Vasa be eliminated from consideration? Then how to sort out Italian or Persian?
A WAF Moderator has identified the ribbon third from the end as the Order of the Star of Romania. Second from the end is the Order of the Crown of Romania. And the last one is still uncertain, possibly Italian, Persian or Swedish.
Gerd, it is possible that they did at that time but I believe that may have changed a few years later. I have a Godet assembled bar dating around the first half of 1914 that contains Italian maker marked decorations.
I don't often stray far from things Imperial but this brass core EKI attributed to a U-Boat skipper who survived the war was irresistable (Thanks GW). It is unmarked and I have no clue as to the possible maker. So, just enjoy the piece.
Ah, yes! I remember tutu! Apparently what passes for early onset of senility in New England is regarded as fraud in California which is what we call trying to sell the same item to two different people!! Very kind gesture with the photo. How tough was it to locate the niece?
What a great start! I don't stray far from the confines of Imperial Medal and Ribbon bars but the brass core EKI attributed to this officer was screaming my name! Too bad the award documents were split up.
Many thanks Rick now I have three more things to find, an Imtiaz Xdate, a Medjidie w/"real" scimitars and a TWM w/campaign bar...the hunt resumes! Gotta love that "no one will ever notice" bar. Is that a case of being so screwed up it has to be real?
Soooooooooo, what is the best tank in the world at this moment? Having asked that question I will now don my helmet, body armor and go into eyeball defilade until the firefight subsides...
While the search for the identity of the "mysterious three" continues I thought I'd post a close up of the Crown device on the RAO which is very nicely done. (Yet another reason to love Imperial)
Initially I was confused by the color of the stripes on the second ribbon thinking it was beige or an off-white but when I flipped the bar over it was clear the first two decorations were striped in green.
Very interesting and informative thread. I never cease to be amazed at the unique items that fall into PK's net! Ralph & Darrell--a very impressive display. Chris has already posed my question, why is 1916 so rare?
