    1. and on the medal bar just off the picture is an American Bornze Star (if I recall correctly) - this individual was 'portrayed' in the Hungarian Film 'The Witness'. Along with Kadar and a host of other 'individuals of notariaety' - I dont know how this black comedy made it past the censors....
    2. To everyone - thanks - for what I paid for it - even dinkered with... its still a nice one for the display cabinet.
    3. the reverese - wouldnt it be great to get a uniform, cap and a tunic with a single ribbon loop to hang this beauty on?
    4. Posted this one beofre - perhaps someone could say more about it (Zsolt?) This is the front of the medal. The reverse has an inscription pertaining to the "II National Congress" (1950?) From info on the web - this was when the assocaition turned into MHS and later MHSZ...I would love to learn more about it. Commemorative for sure, but who got one? Never have seen one since getting this.
    5. WOW - thanks for all the information. When checked against black light the ribbons nor any part of it glows. I could tell from the texture and the age of the ribbons that they are period, probably interwar of course. I yanked the bronze off as its ring has been dinkered with - but it looks like an old repair. Dont know why they did a parallel repair when it should be a perpendicular - but in the interest of quality, I hung the silver first. If that is not regulation with Saxon bars - let me know and the bronze will go in its place - I think the silver came from another bar as it had the little 'sew-in' tab for other style bars hanging on it - its a great thing too as I have a EK,HK combo that is missing this very device for the EK. Now - need to get another EK....
    6. Here is a medal bar that I picked up - I need to know from what state it would be from - and if the ribbons are correct with the medals - I know the WW1 commemorative cross w/ swords is OK - but not cetrain about the others - I think an EK goes next to it? Perhaps its a 'put-together' but the hardware and the construction all look quite old (not aged!) Please tell me some history!
    7. Hi folks - Here are three Partisan Badges that I have in my collection. I am wondering if you perhaps saw the one on the right of this scan. Left: Mint Partisan Badge with all the correct details; fire guilded wreath, enameled star and banners, silvered PPSH's and the 'silvered' center. Middle: Worn Partisan Badge same deails as above, but the guilding has worn off, the silvered center has patina'ed Right: Mint Partisna Badge that is described in the "Large Hungarian Medals Book" as a 'variant' of the Partisan Badge that had a 'guilded center'. This example is un-numbered After looking through the regulations and finding the award dates that Partisna Badges were handed out, I beleive that the latter one (right) may be one of the 1966 final awards. The qulaity is still there - but not quite as the other two. I wonder if its is one of those that you saw? But as the guy at the museum said - for any money they can pull out the old dies and make you one....(which is what I think he was aluding to over the para badges.) looking at the reverse scans - the badges are reversed in order from the views of the obverse.
    8. From what we saw on Wed - I would assume then that the one was saw at the show was an ID card. Next question in the pot - does the ID card and the award card match? I wish I had a doucment or an ID card to post...Zsolt?
    9. 1) Forget what you think you remember... 2) Check refernece material 3) Post on GMIC not the other way around....
    10. Mathces with others I have seen - I even bet the small ring that attaches to the frame is not connected fully on one side...
    11. After doing a little delving into the Blue Bible - I found an interesting entry in the list of regualtions from 1948-1977. Only a certain times were Partisan Badges given out. Here is a list. To begin with the Hungarian Partisan Association was founded and recognised by the Hungarian Government on Novemebr 8th 1945 from its first meeitng on October 27th 1945. (Law #5821/ig. ftitk - 1945) The forces in power were quick to recognise the need to elevate the work of the partisans as they were the 'model' according to a 1960's publication "Liberated Hungary 1945-1960" of the ideal Hungarian. It must be remebered that a good portion of the population of Hungarly did not look to disfavorably towards the Germans who were at times viewed as 'liberators' themselves. The need to elevate these partisans as the ideal worker of the people, a model to follow - for they were after all just "regular citizens". In retrospect they were a small band of people who had fled Hungary in the 1930's-40's to Russia where they were trianed to activate and acomplish partisan activities. Many were trained paratroopers - a feature that appears on the first form of the partisan badge where the crossed rifles are on the 1954 version. On December 5th, 1954 the "official" Hungarian Partisan Badge was instituted and was awarded liberaly into 1955 (as apparent by the document examined for #5912. Then it was declared that a second round was awarded on January 6th, 1956 Then again on April 20th 1957 Then on October 3rd 1958 Many years passed until it was finaly bestowed on September 3rd 1966. After this date there is no record of further awarding. Documents should therefore after 1955 have a date of simply "1956, 1957, 1958, and 1966" -
    12. Upper left is the Hungarian Combat Leaders Badge - given to officers who were qualified for front line service of brigaed and below (WW2 vintage). The upper right looks to be a civilain Hungarian Airlines cap badge (not certain - 1930's ?). The others - sadly I cant comment one
    13. Never thought that I would find one with a document - but I did! 1959 version...medal has some problems with the color -but it does not affect the surface (?) - looks like a coat of laquer gone bad or imporperly applied but it is not bubbles or anything - just odd - but that document says it all -
    14. and an addition to my model 1959 Excelent Soldier Badges - I already had the one off to the right - got the left today. THese were used from 1967-1969 - then they went to a similar design but much smaller
    15. After working for the Hungarian Miltiary for five years - a coleague of mine remembered his little collection of badges that he had collected as a teenager of badges and such - and as a bonus for my labor all these years I got a little plastic bag of goodies...Here is a Buliding Industry Excelent Workers Badge (have not researched these yet - 1950's???)
    16. After a moring at the Hungarian National Museum - here is what I was able to find (so far) on the Partisan badges - it was my joy to hold in my little hands #1! - her is what I was able to discover from what they have in the National Collection #5912 Nov 4, 1955 Fenyo A Endre #3450 ?,?, 1957 Szakasits Arpad #3360 no docs Kelen Jolan (female) #3354 ?,?, 1957 Jungmayer Sandor #2772 no docs Szeged Imre #1786 no docs Komjat Iren (female - apparently well known for her actions) #1147 no docs Fickert Ferenc #606 no docs Maleter Pal (famious maryter of the 1956 revolution) #26 no docs Asztalos Janos (another famious partisan) #1 no docs Tibor Szamuely (this is not confirmed - yet - but it it what was suspected by the director. He was apparentyl killed in 1919 fighting Nationalist Forces - of interest is that this badge is uniqe as it has a concave enameled red star at the top - the die is slightly different than that of the 'typical' 1954 model Partisan badges and displays a much higher quality than the other types - or perhaps I was just enamored with it - who knows?) The museum only has three surviving documents - from which I was able to match name and number and an award year - it looks like it was a method of 'what I pulled off the shelf when I wrote up the award document' - next trip is next week to teh National Archives where it is thought the list of partisans may reside...the search continues.
    17. Hi Ulstermann - Yep - that is a badge - today Gordon and I found a book - privately published and we are working on getting a copy(s) of it. The Blue Bible only has mention of about 40% of the "Kivalo" badges - but no description of the actual badge - just the law. But this type was made prior to 1956 as I saw examples of them with the Rakosi coat of arms. Zsolt may have this book that I am talking about - help Zsolt? As for the Partisans - I will post my findings on the regular HUPR thread.
    18. not to brag but I got to examine one today - they are imperial quality with communist motiff's - what more can you ask for - also but I got to examuine #1 of the Partisan Badge....
    19. "Doc" - had found this item a little while ago - an Austrian WW1 commemorative - but I dismissed it as not "textbook" for the nearly perpendicular crossed swords. These are not an exact match to the ones in the photo - but close... Anyone else seen the short nearly perpendicular crossed swords device?
    20. Also of extreme interest is the addition of a swords device for the combat grade of the WW1 commemorative - a 'little over the top' - but why not - anothr thing to note is the odd type of swords device themselves. I think I recall seeing this type on a German WW1 medal before (?).
