    4. I saw a set of 1938 model Spanish pilots wings on the WAF and they have piqued my interest somewhat. I wondered if anybody could tell me more about the history of these wings in particular known makers (Spanish/German), Foreign Pilots they were awarded to, criteria for awarding, etc? Perhaps some pics of wings in other peoples collections, many thanks
    5. From 2 Warrant Officers at FOST AWW section. Warrant Officers may carry swords but they are to be black handled(Which are different to the Officers Swords). Two are held In Guzz and two in Pompey for ceremonial and other purposes, alternatively you may have your own made if you wish! Hope this helps

    11. Unfortunately I never got to go to Ireland the GS is for a 7 month tour in the Gulf in 1988, keeping the Tankers safe through the straits of Homuz during the Tanker wars. It was a real pleasure to converse with you also my friend, take care and happy sailing. Kind regards, Simon
    12. Good for you mate, I only wish I could make the move. Im fast approching 20 years done, 4 to go and they have just offered me another 5 on top of that. Ah well the moneys okay and I would only revert to delinquent mode if I came out, recapture my lost youth. You boys did a good job out there in very testing circumstances, hats off to you and Jaques and of course all the other guys who have served away :food-smiley-004:
    13. SFOR to IFOR is that right? I am useless with acronyms, I was a young scabby Able Seaman at the time and didnt pay alot of attention apart from my 6 hours in it

    15. I have a nice document and photo grouping to an Pilot Instructor Oberfeldwebel Karl Wacha who was with FFS A/B 14. He never saw combat as a Pilot (as far as I am aware) but I was intrigued to see that he had entries to Stuka Schule 2 in his military license. Has anybody any knowledge about this School and indeed why the entry would be there to a non combat pilot?
    16. Many thanks for the help guys, thanks for hooking the pic out John wub.gif
    17. "the geriatrics in the Forbidden City are building an ocean-going fleet, surface and sub-surface". I am in total agreement with you Rick. As a Sonar/Operations man I have seen a huge shift in the emphasis of our training over recent years to encompass exactly this. Its kind of worrying what these guys are starting to put together.
    18. Here is an award document to a guy who later became a Stuka Pilot with STG77, you can see the caligraphy on Ricks is far better than the typing on the doc issued to a damned Gefreiten
