    1. If any one can read this I would love to know what it says.
    2. Paul! Good to hear from you. We are due for another round of beers. Last time was in London so I guess when your over here I will have to catch up with you. The photo is an Austrian wedding photo. I can't read the old German script but there is a name there.
    3. The small items so you don't have to squint.
    4. I have been taking a break from collecting as not much has excited me for a while and I went back to other hobbies for a while. Old habits die hard and an antique event came by and I decided to go and hunt it. Over time I have found a few nice things there and a bunch of "stuff". This time was a decent haul in my opinion. I got the documents and coat to the 12th AAC pilot and that put me on a little AAC run. The coat has a nice bullion patch on it but there were no wings. The documents show him to be a fighter pilot that was awarded an air medal and a good conduct medal. I will see what else I can find. The EK1 was a good find for me.
    5. The Hindenburg cross makes these all post 1934. I would put these between 1934 and 1939 but if they were truly retired they could be a bit later. The different mount styles are typical for different regions of Germany. The southern parts preferred the flat bottom mounts and you have several of those.
    6. There were no medals on this when I bought it so I do not know if I even have the correct medals on it. These were my best guess. It is a nice bar that sat around for years with no medals on it. I finally filled it in and the medals are just tucked in and not sewn.
    7. I bet that is him. Is it rare to have numbering mistakes? I will double check tonight on the number. Looks like this once was a trio. Has anyone ever had any luck in reuniting medals? It looks like he was a Gallipoli man and landed for the big August push. I have read a couple of books about this part of the war and now a little part of it is here.
    8. I just looked through 510 J. Gray names with no luck. Are all of the medals listed? I also tried 14801 with no luck. I read a bit more and it seems Gray must have been in the 60% of the cards lost in WW2.
    9. Chris, I double checked the medal and the reason you can't find Grey is because I am an idiot! The last name is GRAY - sorry for the bad information.
    10. The way I found these I did not think that one of the medals could belong to the bar. They are 14801 Pte. J. Grey K.O.S.B. 134743 Gnr. J. Traynor. R.A. Thanks for all of the help. I will put these into my little British pile and when I have some time I will get thier index cards. Chet
    11. The back is odd to me. There is no attachment system. Is this a typical setup or is this not a ribbon bar to be worn?

    13. I see DCM,BWM,Vicory,39-45 Star,Defence Medal,39-45 War Medal, Army LS, WW1 Belgian War Cross. I am guessing he entered after the start of 1916 or at least did not make it overseas until 1916. He came back for WW2 but stayed at home. Would this be an elisted man? Any help will be appreciated.
    14. I went to nice little show that was very poorly attended. I did not find any Imperial German gems for the collection and I was digging deep at the show. I was going through one dealers "Junk" box and found these: The VC is marked as copy before anyone falls over! This was all of the "England" stuff he had and wanted to get rid of it. We made a deal and for the grand total of $25 it was all mine! The victory with the ribbon is to a Pte in the KOSB and the one without is to a gunner in the RA. It has been corrected and I believe it was done when named. The ribbon bar was the special piece and for $5 I think I got a great buy but I want to see what you think.
    15. That was my initial thought also. I have never seen the Ehrenmedal on the combat ribbon but I have seen the cross on both so that it why it is there for now. Does anyone have a similar combination? As you can tell I am no huge hurry so if I have to find another medal I will.
    16. Now for the bar. The medals are just tucked in - not sewn. I am not sure about the second one. Can anyone tell for sure if this medal is correct of if it should be the Kriegs-Ehrenmedaille?
    17. I bought a medal bar around seven years ago that had no medals on it. It took me a while to find the first medal. I first bought the Schaumburg-Lippe version. I bought it over at the other sight while at work using my cell phone. When it arrived I realized it was probably the wrong one but kept it as these do not turn up often. Finally the Lippe-Detmold version was for sale here and I bought it. These are nice looking medals.
    18. This is the typical Saxon style. The only thing that bothers me is the first medal. That clip is up really high and the cross on there looks totally out of place. It makes me wonder if the medal clip has been redone or ... did the original cross have the nearly impossible to find crown? This may have been a true gem at one point but you would need to look it over in hand to see. Then, try to find the crown to restore this. :banger:
    19. I agree this is bad but the medals look good. Sometimes you buy the fake bars cheap and make them back into the singles they were last week and get a great deal on some medals.
    20. I thought the first bar was a little high. I cannot find descriptions on the page to see if the last medal is named. That would make the price better. The second bar I thought had something mentioned in the description that put me off but I will have to look again.
    21. I think it makes more sense for the second ribbon to be faded and one of the stripes was originally orange. It fits the precedense of the bar. Here are a couple of examples: My link
    22. Good question and one I cannot answer. Perhaps they were only given to those that left Baden and were "in field".
