Another few K.A.R. WW1 Vic medals
Farkas replied to Farkas's topic in Great Britain: Research, Documentation & History
Hi Peter I'm recommending you for a further mention in dispatches..... tony -
Hi Chris we'll find the elusive little f' what does yours look like from the side please? just seen this one..... ------/--//------- On yours its the 'locking' mechanism I find unusual. The 'key' type fastener is not common hence my previous Russian suggestion. I can't find the image of that now - of course! Any chance of a close up of the fastener please? cheers tony

Family Heirlooms British Army
Farkas replied to Simon F's topic in Great Britain: Research, Documentation & History
Hi Simon i don't know the answer to the significance, if any, but thought worth a mention.... The two cap badges in pic 1 are slightly different in design which may help someone to identify the period of issue. the slides are clearly different lengths. The first of them slightly longer. Also, the first badge is more 'rubbed' yet still has fine detail to the letters ASC. the second is less worn/rubbed yet appears to lack the same detail to the letters? Particularly in times of war, when savings are required, these are the sort of change made that is discreet yet saves money. The ASC received the Royal in 1918 becoming the RASC. ----//--/////---- BTW : According to Wiki ... The Finsbury Rifles were known as the 'Pentonville Pissers' ---///------/ Given the DOB's of your relatives I like to think you have the 3 badges worn by the younger 3 on your list best wishes tony -
Hi Gents i am no longer so sure the lanyard is related. It now seems obvious to me that in all pictures I find they appear darker, that mine appears too light in colour. tony

Hi tomalakis Excellent picture - really good features.... I can only state that the cockade is Emperor FJi who died November 1916. Don't quote me - but I would guess it is an earlier pic than that as there were 1916 'campaign' badges worn which I can't see here. i too would expect edelweiss collar badge though... i hope other more learned Gents can help. tony

Hi Ian certainly looks like one... the ribbon as a trifold would correspond I believe. And as foreign award it's placing would also seem correct to me..... tony

Hi ray and Gents My best wishes to ray11 A kindred spirit! i buy first and think later.... but I often don't know where?? tony. -------///--/------- Gents... do we perhaps have facility for a "no other advice other than 'try here - this category' advice ? Edit ---- It has been thought of before I'm sure... open to abuse is the problem.... maybe some middle ground can be found for Gents?

Hi Gents I hope you may add to this because these are all I have for now so please add your own 'anything' if you want... i know you Gents love your KM.... ------------ I received some goodies today. Goodies pictured are all from the same seller. but they were not identified for their sale.( She's too busy! ) and I have bought them separately amongst many things over a period of time. total cost £23 including post. -------- The buttons are Kuk Navy? I'm pretty sure the 'collar tabs' ? Possibly AH surely? Or Brit RN? Shoulder Tab? Same trim as the collar so possibly? ---------- **** posted before I was ready so editing quickly! but here goes **** curious for your thoughts Gents.... tony

Austria-Hungary Austrian Bravery Medals - Tapferkeitmedaille
Farkas replied to Tim B's topic in Austro-Hungarian Empire
Hi Gents i have to admit I clipped the mounting ring off a silver FJi with no signature. I don't mind an honest copy but don't like fakes. A 'friend' who I buy postcards from, regularly has Medal finds too but sells elsewhere. He does however list 'Hindenburgs' and 'tapferkeits' as so common. I bought it cheap described as 2nd class award. I trust him and believe it was a 'find' but without the signature I didn't trust it. Despite trusting him. This thread and recent comments are appreciated and I think important to our community to note...... Thanks tony -
Hi Chris i spent ages looking through google images last night. Nothing quite the same is there. I couldn't find a pic of an Austro Hungarian though. Ww2 German shared some features..... but the closest match I saw was Imperial Russian.... just a thought... tony {{{ PS trying to tempt Bayern into finding us a picture please!}}}

Hi Gents hi Mike, Peter... i have to admit I am the 'sinner' who cleaned up the one on the left. They were a matching pair darkened but I felt compelled to clean one to see the detail. I thought the darkening was patina through age but the finish made me think maybe they were produced with a darkened finish. Or were fake and intentionally darkened to appear of age. So. On this occasion I regretted my decision. Picked up for 3 quid I can't complain if they are copies but I will see what I can find out.... thanks as always both cheers tony

Thanks both your help and info appreciated im happy I grabbed them whether ww1 or Ww2.... tony

Farkas replied to Farkas's topic in Great Britain: Research, Documentation & History
Thanks Simon i followed the link. Certainly the colours match mine so I'd agree happy it is an RASC insignia. As you say it's most likely field made..... fingers crossed I'll have more info to add one day. tony
