    1. Hi Gents i have this rather worn Soldbuch. I think having been born in 1885 this man reported initially in 1905 then was recalled 1914. I can't read the name. he seems to have a few different regrets stamps including a 'train' battalion. To my amateur eye entries stop 1917. Otherwise I can't make out much.... the 2 bonds were in the book and it also had a collapsible 'trench' cup with it. hope its of interest Gents tony
    2. Hi Gents I don't know if this helps. i believe Infantry officers had a polished steel scabbard whereas the Nco or musicians etc were issued a leather scabbard with a brass stopper/shoe. The one in the photo looks metal to me. tony
    3. Hi Sebastijan yes I would agree, I see the horse of the 9th Armoured Brigade tony
    4. Hi Gents i hope this is the right place to share this... I haven't confirmed this is Spanish but I've seen similar(ish) with crown. -------//--//---- It measures 75mm tip to tip light weight but sturdy hope you like tony
    5. Hi Mike just in case! Driscoll Scouts of interest? 4 bars 522 Quirie tony PS love the displays.....
    6. Hi Chris Great link both for the tale of their fate and the site as a whole.... plenty for all. Nice one tony
    7. Ah! It's a camera. That's what I spotted too... I thought it a presentation box. nice one tony
    8. Nice one GreyC do you think the lucky fella between the two ladies is holding a presentation box containing a medal/award? perhaps the reason for the drinks? tony PS just 2 little pics from google.. you can see one of the towers still standing....
    9. Hi Chris yes I think you're right... after an evening of near misses swinging it round at my mums house it doesn't see to have the weight or the design for 'serious work'. But sure is fun anyway..... tony
    10. Hi Gents, Well it's here.... Solidly made and, although I wouldn't want to get hit with it, I'd say it might be more thench art than trench club perhaps. The length is excessive for a club but having said that, it swings great, hits hard and has a spike! so would have done a job. the leather is in 6 or so seperate pieces of various thickness and colours that are wrapped and glued around a bar that flexes. the leather is tapered and stops just under the bullets although the bar continues and then the cartridges are 'welded' around the bar. The coin provides the finishing touch. It has some wear. There is a slight kink halfway. When held two handed this is where it's held. If any of you have seen anything similar or have any thoughts on it please do. hope you like it tony
    11. Hi Gents no Red Cross uniforms but... perhaps the back is more interesting than the front?(I can't read it btw...) tony
    12. Hi Gents i had only just received this and hadn't noticed the collars on the others! It was only as Andreas said founded in 1922 that I noticed . nice one. thanks both. this pic may be tiny bit better? Again thanks for your comments Gents tony PS hoping if I look through my existing photos again I'll spot a few more of these fellas.....
    13. Hi Tobias good to see them side by side A great looking pair..... tony
    14. Hi Gents this fella is at the post office. I'm collecting it Monday........ Just 35 quid on eBay. And it's mine now! -------//:-/-----// Apparently: It's 33inches long It's coiled leather. (Flexes ?) I think from looking at the pics the pointed end diameter might be less than the heavy end perhaps tapered that way. What do make of it Gents ? It was advertised as an Officers swagger stick im hoping its a bit more than that. i will update with my own pics on Monday when I pick it up... Fingers Crossed please Gents tony
    15. Hi again Gents perhaps it would help if I get the details? I'll find out post them asap... tony
    16. Hi Horst glad you like it there is something about them I agree. I couldn't resist this one, it was a good price because it's too small for most- Including me but who cares - looks great! tony
    17. Morning Gents As 'Manuel' once said 'I know nothing' but that never stops me To me it looks like... E (curvy) L (ends Lower) then the half size 'bit' on the lower right... maybe is .... i or l ------////:-/-/:------- so...,, 'EL the first' of 'somewhere' is my drunken guess. ? tony **Although I reckon sometimes it's better not to know - because It can be harder to keep 'pretty' things on a whim if you do....
    18. Hi Gents A friend of mine has some WW2 named USAAF medal groups. Could any of you Gents suggest a good source/site where he could start his research? British records are limited for that period still. Is that also the case for US records? Any thoughts appreciated, thanks.... tony
    19. Hi Gents just seen this thread.... Brilliant work, stunning results... ----/--// I wonder... Spasm, did you manage to keep to your plan? Was that the last or....? tony PS couldnt agree more about the fakers taking advantage of some artists work. I prefer the relics - for price and confidence of authenticity..... Left one below had one large hole. Filled then shed loads of paint applied. Paint job tragic. But owner was upfront about his repair and it only cost me 60 odd quid. t
