    1. The first one looks good to me. On the second, the "Vor dem Feinde" doesn't belong. It's for an Oldenburg FA. Hard to tell from the fuzzy scan, but looks like it might be a little iffy.
    2. Unfortunately this went a little beyond my means. Actually, way beyond Things are pretty mixed up, but it seems to be mostly there other than the Saxe-Weimar Home Service Cross and the ribbons for the EKII and St. Michael, which appears to be silver. Two nice non-combattant bars and a handful of other pieces, one of which is very nice. I think someone did rather well.
    3. The shortened forestock is an "aftermarket" modification. I Helen could show a closeup of the point here the barrel extens from the wood I think it would show signs of being reworked. The Boers, being predominantly mounted, would want a lighter carbine type weapon.
    4. DEAT6H? is this some kind of South African inside joke?
    5. Ja, es ist m?glich. Young Offizier in WWI, won the ?STM pre-April 1917(FJ, not Karl). Demobbed after the War, recalled in 1939. Probably had other TR awards, but not a subscriber to the "Party Line". In his 60's, 70's in '57. As to value, this isn't my area, soI have no idea
    6. Wrong ribbon, but it's this: a vanity piece from the Ehrenlegion, a vet's organization. The ol' Furg Dagerland :cheeky:
    7. I imagine $5,000 could buy a helluva lot of nails in 1776. Do you have any idea what they were for?
    8. I'm not that familiar with these, but from the misshapen link at the bottom, the general lack of detail, and the finish of the back, reminiscent of '50's costume jewelry, I'd say it's a dud. I have a feeling it was molded from a damaged stamped badge, thus the funky bottom link.
    9. All three, but particularly the last one, look like they could/would be fitted with some type of carrying strap. Is this the case?
    10. It's hard to tell from the small scan, but it looks OK to me. You can send me larger scans and I'll post them for you. Great photo
    11. Captured mitrailleuse? I imagine there were still some leftovers from '70/71 in use. Courtesy Wikipedia Commons
    12. From "Gold Coins of the World" by Robert Friedberg.
    13. A sister ship, the Constellation, is or was in Baltimore. When I toured it twenty odd years ago it still had the WWII radio room. These old ladies were built to last.
    14. Those would make for a serious pillow fight The Induna's iwisa reminds me of a weighted Victorian cane I once had. Even with the small knob a fearsome weapon. I borrowed the front end loader from work today and found the other spear head. No tong marks and it looks like it was made in two pieces, the blade being attached to the shaft. Interestingly enough, I got it from Alaska.
    15. I think if you look closely you'll see a fine soldered seam.
    16. Pardon my ignorance, but why do you say the recipient is non-white? van Wyk sounds like a Boer name.
    17. I have serious doubts about this one. I recently picked up a Prussian one on eBay with the same wire on the prongs. The heavy verdigris on yours where the belt end would have been is convincing, but the appearance of two with the previously unknown thin wire wrapping seems a bit more than coincidence. There are at least three companies selling high quality repros but unfortunately none of them show the backs.
    18. It looks like an ice axe. Quite handy for rock climbing ( and liquidating Bolsheviks ) The dots on the haft are interesting. I have an Austian entrenching tool with similar dots/dimples, though not as many. Could these be a code?
    19. Thanks, Mervyn. It's always a pleasure reading your postings. I've had an interest in the areas you cover for quite a while but was too lazy to do much research. You've brought it to my door. I wonder if my Isiphapha's been washed :o
    20. Very, erm, descriptive names Here's a closeup of the head and a close-closeup of what might be tong marks (the Chinese connection )
