    1. Dear Sandro, do you still have the Militärhandbuch 1916 (cannot find it online)? If yes, could you possibly look for Wilhelm Weiß, probably Oberst (later Generalmajor/Generalleutnant) at this time. Very grateful, Andreas
    2. Preliminary results: Portepee-Fähnrich: ??? 3. I take that back, I finally found proof of his Aviator Commemorative Badge in the Reichswehr Rangliste of 1927, p. 134.
    4. Added a few things according to Militär-Handbuch des Königreiches Bayern 1916, one can only imagine he got several more things until 1918.
    5. This is what I have put together, also using the information by many members of this forum. After attending Gymnasium and passing his exams (with Abitur), Graf zu Castell-Castell voluntarily joined the Königlich Bayerisches 1. Ulanen-Regiment „Kaiser Wilhelm II., König von Preußen“ as a Fähnrich on 19 August 1886. He was sent to military school, was commisioned and was commanded to the Royal Bavarian Riding School (Equitations-Anstalt) for two years. From 1897 to 1900 he studied at the War Academy (Königlich Bayerische Kriegsakademie). He became Adjutant of the IV. Armee-Inspektion on 19 September 1900 and, still Oberleutnant, was named Flügeladjutant of King Otto Wilhelm Luitpold Adalbert Waldemar von Wittelsbach (de facto serving the Prince Regent, Otto was unfit to rule) on 6 December 1900, which was unusual given his age and rank, but due to his name and position. He also served Prince Regent Ludwig (1912–1913) and King of Bavaria Ludwig III (1913–1918), one and the same person. He served in WWI, being promoted to Generalmajor in May 1918, but was not elevated to an appointment as General à la suite or General-Adjutant and retired still in the appointment of a Flügel-Adjutant with Major-General's rank on 28 December 1918. If anyone can add or correct anything, I would be, as always, thankful: Fähnrich (Officer Cadet): 19 August 1886 (überzähliger Portepeefähnrich) ... Offiziersreife (Officer Maturity) after passing exams: 1888 Second-Lieutenant (2nd Lieutenant): 15 February 1889 Premier-Lieutenant (1st Lieutenant): 7 November 1896 Rittmeister: 28 October 1901 Major: 5 April 1908 (without Patent) ... received Patent on 28 October 1908 ... with the rank of a regimental commander (mit dem Range eines Regiments-Kommandeurs) Oberstleutnant (Lieutenant Colonel): 22 February 1913 Oberst (Colonel): 11 October 1914 Generalmajor: 28 May 1918 Prussian Order of the Crown (Preußischer Kronenorden), 4th Class (PK4) Red Eagle Order (Roter Adlerorden), 4th Class (PRAO4/PrA4) ... later received the Crown to his 4th Class (PrA4m.Kr) Austrian Order of the Iron Crown, Knight III. 6. Thanks! Nothing for the father? Too bad, that would have fit greatly! The couple met for the first time in Berlin during the 1936 Summer Olympics. Following their first meeting, Luitpold and Alexandrine Louise spent nearly every day together. Before her departure from Berlin, Luitpold proposed marriage and Alexandrine Louise accepted. They would have three children, although Otto Luitpold (1942–1943), whom the father never saw, died young. Dr. jur. Luitpold Graf zu Castell-Castell, Oberleutnant (1st Lieutenant) of the Wehrmacht, was severely wounded as a flight passenger when the Ju 52 (CE + AS; Werknummer: 5382) he was on, during a courier flight from Belgrade to Athens, crashed due to ice on the wings on 28 October 1941. He died on 6 November 1941 in the Kriegslazarett 1/602 in Bankya near Sofia. Alexandrine never married again, Luitpold was her first and only love.
    7. Very good question, maybe his ÖFJ2m.St (Rangliste 1914), but maybe something Bavarian or even Danish. What could the sash be?
    8. This is Otto Friedrich Graf zu Castell-Castell at the wedding of his oldest son Dr. jur. Luitpold Alfred Friedrich Karl Graf zu Castell-Castell (1904–1941) with Alexandrine Louise Caroline Mathilde Dagmar Prinzessin von Dänemark (1914–1962) in 1937. That could be a EK I to the left below the star, but I just can't make it out.
    9. This is what I have, any additions or corrections would be great. Maybe a picture in uniform with all decorations? Thanks! 29.4.1881:Fahnenjunker (Officer Candidate) 15.11.1881: Fähnrich (Officer Cadet) 13.9.1882: Sekonde-Leutnant (2nd Lieutenant) 22.3.1891: Premier-Leutnant (1st Lieutenant) 27.1.1896: Hauptmann (Captain) 27.1.1904 Major 20.3.1911: Oberstleutnant (Lieutenant Colonel) 10.9.1913: Oberst (Colonel) with Patent from 1.10.1913 27.1.1917: Generalmajor 10.10.1919: Charakter als Generalleutnant (honorary Lieutenant General) 1.4.1920: Generalleutnant a. 10. Maybe one of you Gentlemen can help me out: I am looking for a picture of Alter Adler Egloff Max Freiherr von Freyberg-Eisenberg-Allmendingen in uniform. He was with the Fliegertruppe in WWI. What is so strange, the Reichswehr Ranglisten have neither an observer badge nor a pilots badge (Erinnerungsabzeichen) for him, although he was an Alter Adler. I would very much like to see one on his uniform. Thanks!!!
    11. Bavarian MVK 2 with swords? That is new to me and great news! Do you happen to know, if Josef Mai also received this award? Thanks!
    12. Gentlemen, Rumey (in front of his Albatros D.Va) seems to be wearing two ribbons in his Knoploch. EK II and ...? Did the Golden Military Merit Cross have such a Band. Thanks!
    13. Yes, thank you, but nothing about before his naval service. Do you happen to have this whole page? If yes, could you publish it? Thanks!
    14. What a great picture! Can you report anything on his life? Did he study law? And where? When did he join the navy? Thank you!!!
