      Dear azyeoman, "couldn't hooks become unhooked over time?" I don't think so, it's already difficult to hook them. As can be seen on your photo. Once properly mounted, the medals cannot move, they can be damaged (ribbon / hook), but not unhooked. A very small detail, but which is important, I think, the medals are usually (but not always), tied up to avoid the "bell ringing" noise and damage when one moves. As for the absence of a military campaign, why not? The Order of the Rising Sun was attributed to civil officials. The military was not the only one who got medals. The medals are fine, the bar is fine, but as you said yourself, some medals bar are "reconstructed" ... to add value.       Dear Gentlemen, I post the badges et patches of the Customs here, because they are of the same pattern and often misidentified. Another reason is that le police and customs work often, literary, side by side, sharing the same infrastructures. First the Customs were called " Contributions Indirectes / C.I." from June 27,1977 to April 1st, 1998 : 1980 23 Octobre Arrêté n°80-1557/PR/FIN fixant l'uniforme des agents des brigades de contrôle des contributions indirectes. "Article 1er : Les agents des brigades de contrôle du Service des Contributions Indirectes sont astreints au port de l'uniforme. Ils devront obligatoirement le revêtir dans l'exercice de leurs fonctions pendant les heures de service et au cours des cérémonies officielles. Tout manquement à cette obligation sera sanctionné conformément aux règles du statut général des fonctionnaires. Article 2 : L'uniforme est composé des articles suivants : A. Casquette avec coiffe couleur blanc beige, bandeau bleu marine, jugulaire argent et macaron brodé en fil d'argent sur fond bleu marine. L'insigne du service des contributions indirectes représente deux palmiers. Les contrôleurs et contrôleurs divisionnaires portent sur le bandeau un galon argent. Les Inspecteurs portent sur le bandeau un galon or. B. Lorsqu'un effet d'habillement est perdu ou mis hors d'usage pour une cause ou une autre que l'usure normale, un rapport circonstancié indiquant si la perte ou la détérioration, imputable au détenteur est établi par le Chef de la brigade de contrôle. Dans le cas ou elles sont dues à une négligence ou à une utilisation irrégulière, le responsable doit pourvoir à son remplacement et un ordre de recette correspondant au prix de remplacement de l'effet est émis à son encontre.
