Thanks Norm, Just realised I made an error in my earlier post, it should have been a comparison between Reichsmarine and Kriegsmarine . I have a picture-postcard where she is carrying the Imperial flag, but during the Reichsmarine era. Wolf was indeed used from '27 onwards. I just come to think that changing the cap tallies from latin script to gothic script, may have been in a time they changed the hull code (from 'WO' to 'WL'). Just a wild guess though... Laurens

Hello Justin, Thanks for the explanation. Just so I get it right, wasn't the one offered on eBay from the Imperial Navy? There was a Torpedoboot Wolf in the Imperial Navy (not the same as Wolf from the Reichsmarine/Kriegsmarine period). Seems difficult to distinguish one from Imperial vs one from the Reichsmarine if they are both in Latin script. Are you also referring to the topic from Gordon which is pinned in this sub-forum? Nice collection, gents. And Justin, I'm curious about the two bottom tallies in your first picture. When was that kind of font used? Are those prewar tallies? Reason I ask is because I noticed a tally from Torpedoboot Wolf on eBay Germany a few weeks ago. Seller claimed it was pre-1935. But I was unsure and saw it go to somebody else (maybe someone from the forum??).

While searching the internet for (EK2-) award docs given for actions in 'Flandern', I noticed this item. I don't question originality, but I raise an eyebrow for the unit. Simply because I have no knowledge of a Matrosen-Regiment. Can someone please elaborate on these units? Where they of any importance or rather rated poorly? Thank you,Laurens

Hello gents, I'm looking for a helping hand to explain this ribbon bar from Hermann Lohbeck (picture-postcard in my collection). It starts with the 1914 EK2 and the Bavarian Military Merit Order but troubles begin with ribbon n°3, one I cannot explain. I assume it continues with two Austro-Hungarian Military Merit Crosses, one having a wreath. Second to last is the Hindenburg cross, to make it end with the Hungarian Commemorative Medal. If my thoughts are correct, what could be ribbon number 3? Thank you, Laurens

Hello, The attached image is a photo from a serie of five photos I recently acquired. All are portraits from a Oberfeldveterinär with the name Dr. Philipp Nickl. While the attached photo shows a portrait taken in June 1942, he died (or was killed) in September 1944. I can only assume he may have served as a divisional veterinarian. If so, would it be possible to find the unit he served with? There is no certainty regarding the rank, as he may have been promoted between June 1942 and September 1944. And I'm afraid the nice ribbon bar will not offer much assistance in this matter... Thanks, Laurens

Thank you all for your comments. First off, the document is indeed for sale as indicated by the covered swastika. I received better images today which I post in attachment. What I also noticed is a faint effect on some of the letters on the right side of the document. This can be seen on the right side of the GAB in general, the last letter 's' in Besitzzeugnis and the letter 'n' in Sturmabzeichen. The document has been framed for several years (as I was told so), but could that be an explanation? The divisional stamp is interesting to compare with the ones seen here and on the GCA-forum by Simon. The one from Wollner is pretty much from the same period as Richter, but it's a completely other stamp indeed. I do not know the correct name of the script in the stamp, but is this called S?tterlin? The letters 'sch' in Fallschirmj?ger and the letter 's' in Division differ very much. I am also eager to hold it in hand and even feel/touch the paper. I wonder if it is thick paper (the rip on the left side makes me assume this is not a thin paper). I am also curious about the structure in the paper, as I think it is not straight flat but rather with a structure in it. Laurens 1/3

Gents, I'm looking forward to read your comments on the award document below. On first sight, it looks rather convincing (date matches with commanders name and no obvious spelling errors). On the other hand, some members raise an eyebrow when it comes to the image of the GAB. Why using the first grade GAB when this one is awarded for 50 days of combat? Maybe because it's noting more than a decorative award document, but still a good point. And as pointed out by member Simon, has the stamp any chance of being original? Can someone share a similar stamp/example from 1. Fallschirmj?ger-Division? My attempts to find one were futile... This document comes with a photo as well, showing the soldier with a 'regular' GAB. So no Erdkampfabzeichen for this paratrooper. Was it possible for the FJ to receive a GAB? My guess is yes for the low-grade GAB because the Erdkampfabzeichen was not yet instituted, but then why go on in 1944-1945 with the higher grades? Thanks for any input, Laurens

Instead of opening a new thread, I show my example from Z8 Bruno Heinemann here. After a repair/refit of 5 months in Weserm?nde, Z8 left the NDL shipyard October 19, 1940. This document was probably awarded for minelaying actions around May 1940. What puzzles me is the meaning of the letter (F) behind Stabsmaschinisten. I think it is some kind of specialisation, but I don't know which one. Meanings such as Funker, Fernsprecher, F?hrer or Fahrer are probably inappropriate. Laurens

One last thing before I forget: the obverse of the medal shows the letter "?" at the bottom (5 o'clock position). Does the letter "?" stand for "Slovakia"? Or is it related to a possiblemaker? Thanks again, Laurens
