    1. I noticed these items as well, but it was a pity both medal bar and ribbon bar were sold separately. I could not resist to ask for better pictures
    2. Hmm...I know some are not fond of metal backings, and it's never a good indication to see small scratches on the tabs either. In this case, I fail to understand the combination...
    3. Hello all, What is a possible reason for the lack of a Hindenburg Cross ribbon (combatant or non-combatant left aside for now) on this small ribbon bar? The criteria for the Hindenburg Cross was: "Eligible for the award were all German citizens, and all German nationals who had lost that nationality due to the Versailles treaty, who had provided services to Germany during August 1914-December 1918.". As the bar has a EK2 1914, I would expect a Hindenburg cross ribbon too. Also, seeing there is only one service medal, and the device seems to be in gold, what can you say about the years of service? I don't think 4 years is appropriate. Or am I wrong Thanks, Laurens Ps: My apologies, as the last scan I hastely made lacks quality...
    4. Thank you gentlemen! The document was a planned purchase, as I share much interest in Torpedoboot Wolf (lost with approx. 20 crew members near Dunkirk, late 1941). The destroyer badge fell out of the sky only a few days later, but I couldn't resist to buy it... Laurens
    5. Hello all, Since a few days, I can look back to the following items with much pride. These are my first steps in the world of Kriegsmarine, and I'm quite pleased with the documents from Torpedoboot Wolf and the latest JFS Destroyer badge. For a change, the badge holds quite some of its original finish... Best regards, Laurens
    6. Igor, My apologies for a late reply, but thank you for your assistance. I'm a novice to identify certain unmarked EK's, but after searching several forums, I can agree with maker 65 All the best, Laurens
    7. Hello all, Is it possible for someone to match a maker to the unmarked three-piece cross below? I feel my HP-scanner is a bit outdated, so I took extra photos with my digital camera. Let me know if other areas are needed. On the reverse of the left arm, there is some loss of paint (not chipped or cracked, but more like rubbed off). I also took a detail of the date, as one can see a little grain in the paint. Thank you, Laurens
    8. Hello Marc, I admit you completely made my weekend with this thread and the information provided I collect postcards entitled "Ritterkreuztr?ger des Heeres" from the German artist Prof. Oskar Graf. On one of the cards, Alfred Germer is depicted. Yet, I was unable to find much information regarding his actions (and this goes for so many holders of the Knights Cross on the cards). I know of a magazine from "Der Landser" with Oblt. Germer, but I don't have it in my possession yet. But the personal file you shared is truly a gem! I look forward to see more from another winner of the Knights Cross, also for actions on the Maginot Line. It was Oblt. Ernst-Friedrich Langenstrass from 2./Pi-Btl.28. Only recently did I start my research on the postcards and the reason they were given the Knights Cross. Besides Germer and Langenstrass, I have to verify if there are any others. Laurens
    9. I don't know the seller, but I saved the same pictures earlier this week (the two china bars as well as the single EK2). I awaited comments on this forum, and they came indeed. I just had the shivers down my spine knowing now from who they came, knowing what happened to them, knowing that someone will be deceived Laurens
    10. As splendid as ever, and even more than I asked for All the best, Laurens
    11. Hello, I have a question, which might have an easy answer: Is the backing material important, when speaking of medal bars with a single long service award (or a combination of two long service awards)? Red seems to be popular or frequent, but so is fieldgray, darkblue and lightgrey. Is there a meaning behind this? I read that some manufacturers/tailors preferred one color above the other, so I tend to believe there is no relation to the branch of the long service award. Thank you, Laurens Ps: Why is this forum a paradise when it comes to medal bars/ribbon bars?
    12. Thank you for your input, Gordon. I try to find makers that use this kind of reverse setup, and then look for similarities in the obverse. Quite a difficult task, that is If Mayer is out of the question, I believe an unmarked Steinhauer & Luck comes near regarding the setup. Someone mentioned F&BL too, but I don't have any pictures on file from the latter. May I know what your feeling tell you, Gordon? All the best, Laurens
    13. Hello all, I'm recently in the process of learning more about destroyer documents and badges. And one item that keeps me busy in my early stages, is the following unmarked badge. It has been discussed partially on the WAF, and most seem to go for B.H.Mayer. It's not that I question originality in the first place, but wouldn't one expect a round C-wire catch? Is it possible this one has a resoldered catch? Thanks for any clarification, Laurens
    14. This is amazing and high-quality material, Robert! Congratulations... I personally like the photos from I?br?cker and the other Knights Cross winners best, so thank you for sharing these unique examples. Regards, Laurens
    15. Your replies are always a pleasure to read Rick, thank you for that. It is getting easier for me to determine a ribbon on a bar, but I'm still suffering to learn the meaning behind the combinations (but that goes for several collectors ) I'm in the early process of collecting bars with the WW2 EK2 clasp, and here is a detail from the one discussed (with some small damage or pitting on the border and the numbers 9 + 3)...
