    1. Okay, thanks so far, when I stumble upon datings, I shall also relate to is here.
    2. Thanks a lot Hugh, one question, were al these already in effect when WW2 was going on or were they awarded in relation for WW2?
    3. Thanks so far, it surely helps something. I am still a bit confused on wht kind of decoratio this one was. It was not a military bravery medal, but could it be stated as a bravery medal or just a commemorative medal. At this moment I have stated it as a bravery medal for it is said to be one of the highest decorations. I could use help in relation to all Nationalist Chinese decorations that were awarded during of in relation to the Second World War.
    4. Great Hugh, thanks for all so far this is a good start.
    5. THanks in advance. Our website covers two sections. On one hand we have a database of persons that received decorations in or related to the Second World War (www.ww2awards.com ) . One of our members is working on all 70 or so attendents to the Doolittle Raid. Here he found out that some have received the mentioned Chinese Army, Navy and Air Corps Medal, Class A, First Grade. All medals that are placed with the persons are brought in a database that covers the other part of our website, a database of all medals, orders and other decorations which have all or some relation to the Second World War (same website). ALready 63 countries have one or more decorations entered, one of the next countries to cover is CHina. Problem is that on the internet and in books there is little known. Thats why I asked for help here. I do not have entry to the ROC MND website yet, how can that be of any help to us in relation to World War Two? Me I am at this moment working on the decoration part. I am trying to find out which decorations have relation to WW2 or were given out in WW2. We try to place the original name and a DUtch and English translation. However we do use western characters, so no chinese characters. Also I need large dpi images (300 dpi the least) for placement with the entry's, together with a ribbonbar image. Any help is welcome for we try to be as complete as possible.
    6. In research to the decorations for Doolittle Raid Members, for the website www.ww2awards.com, we search information on Chinese Medals. The ones we seek for now are: the Chinese Army, Navy and Air Corps Medal, Class A, 1st Grade. We could use help on the chinese names (in western alphabet), photos and class/grades clearification. Besides that we could use a good overvieuw of all Chinese decorations, World War Two related of all periods, to enter inour database. Please help us.
    7. Lets just say that besides WW2, medals in total make a little sidestep in my collection.
    8. Here is my First World War type Croix de Guerre with Bronze Palme
    9. Thanks so far. This at least is a lead to look further. Any other guessess?
    10. Does anyone know what this one stands for, when it was made and what criteria it needs?
    11. Interesting indeed. i wonder if a veteran in the formar USSR could help out. I have seen more of this kind on other worn out medals. Could it be that when veterans let their medal being reribboned with a new ribbon and ribbonholder, the person/organisation or business that does that also has the oppertunity to regild the medals? This in order to make them look nice again on the uniform at the annual memorial days?
    12. I would state a veteran that wore his medals almost every day
    13. Looks like a genuine one to me. Could you also place a total overvieuw of front and back with total ribbon on it to be more sure? It is not uncommon for a worn one to have this colour and often they were remounted with new ribbon.
    14. Wow, so you can see how even a photo can trick a person. If that's the case, I can agree with Mike, for certainty I shall await the photos.
    15. I don't like this one. Might be the photo but looks like the Makers name and location has been scratched into or has been engraved or stamped into the decoration. As far as I know (but I could be wrong, Sascha Weber's Das Infanterie Sturmabzeichen, states the same as I think) the name of the maker Ernst L. Muller and Pforzheim were not imprinted in the back, but the letters lay on the decoration (gepragt as they say in germany). Don't know the right English terms but the letters belong to be in higher relief on the back of the decoration.
    16. I've read somewhere that he was a Staffofficer in Danmark during most part of the Second World War and retired in 1945. Don't know any about decorations he received.
    17. Bedankt, zal gelijk kijken

    19. The reason why is still not known. Known is that in 1942 the LdO issued a notice to the manufacturers wher in they adviced to only use Iron cores as the rules stated. This message was send beceause it was found out that some manufacturers used brass and tombak which was not allowed. They were ordered to use Iron or they would be expelled from manufacturing the EK 1. This states not why other materials were used, but it does state that prior to 1942 some manufacturers produced non iron core EK 1's. The story that they were issued for Kriegsmarine use has never been proven by any documentation, so this story is no longer eminent.
    20. Thanks Megan any help is welcome. It was a long time ago, but we had already received permission to use medals from the website Medals of the World (I believe it was over two years ago we had contact with the webmaster). When I find a usable image on the forum I shall place the link to your website as the source. (By the way feel free to use any from our website too when you mis any, with a link to the website for the source please).
    21. I did'nt know where to put this question, but I thought it would be here at its best. Some of the members of this forum I have already asked in person and received permission. But it is an immence work to go by each member and ask. Often I shall do so, but I would like to pop this question also in this way to try and get help. For a non-commercial project of the Dutch World War 2 historical foundation STIWOT, the website WW2 Awards we are always in search for images, information and texts to use. Information and texst is not such a problem because it is always permitted to use info in ones own words. But is would be a great help to be able to place texts one to one on our website. But specially we can use lots of images. It would be a great help when you can agree me using images from you that are placed on this forum. We always state the source, so pleace also tell me how your name should be stated for the source. If you can agree with us using texts and images straight from this forum, please inform me by Message or in this thread. It would be a great help.
