Maybe this explains that....too many variants would point to many manufacturers or....to many fakes.....food for thoughts.

Interesting theory. Are we certain of the age of this man in 1922, assuming the photo was indeed taken in 1922? I guess that boys of a young age were sent to war in those days???? (here's the date) Anyway, nice shot of Ataturk on the other forum. Interesting to see how he wears the EK1 and the Turkish Star...

It seems clear that, unless we can see examples of this medal in original manufacturers' catalogues, we will always be tempted to say "mine is real and yours is not". Unfortunately, I feel as if this has been the case before and, as happens all too often, these wild theories become rules. I must admit that I have also followed this trend and kept away from any dubious examples when I bought mine. So, has anyone got any period catalogue showing these?

Old thread indeed and much confusion. Isn't the size of the "podium" another indication of fake (i.e. if the podium touches the rim of the medal)? This seems to be a feature that appears with the curevd M....

Good eye Rick!!! It does indeed look like the tip of a pin sticking out there. I have looked at the photo with a 10x magnifying glass but I still cannot make out the top or bottom of the cross....

If you look at picture 15 you can see a discoloration which seems to indicate that there was a larger plate at some point.
