I've heard for years about the RKs that were supposedly assembled in Britain with the dies from Steinhauer & Luck, but I have never seen pictures of any! Can anybody post pics of this legendary post-war RK?
I don't know about the inscription either, but I have two "S-W" EK 1s. One has a "1" on the underside of the pin near the hinge, and the other has a "3" in that same spot.
(As a qualifier, though, I must point out that the small ribbon ring on this EK 2 is open, so it is possible that an Imperial ring got put onto the cross by someone other than the manufacturer.)
That's the first time I've seen an apparent Imperial mark on a 1939 EK 1. I have, however, seen an Imperial mark on a 1939 EK 2 -- specifically this example with the Sy Wagner "S-W" mark.
