Christer

    14. Aha , Thanks Paul Now I know what to look for in the " Finnish medal Bible" ( Janis Book ) Christer
    15. I bought this medal but I´m not sure what it is Finnish that I can see and 1881-1902 so before the liberation war in 1918 .... Some sort of Army Jubilee medal ?? Hopefully its worth the 25 E I paid. Any Finnish experts out there ? Christer
    16. Youré right Mikko , I mixed up two auctions , this one went in Auction 19 , April was Auction 22. Even two years ago it was a super price for a object like that. Almost like an Knights Cross with swords oakleaves and diamonds Christer
    17. Sometimes you wish you had a lot of money lying around ..... ( probably always ) This Finnish Liberty Cross 1st class without swords was sold in Sweden in April for ........ 2300 Euro And few so few where ever awarded and this cross was given to Johan Mannerheim ! Gustaf Mannerheims brother. at this price it was a steal I dream on ........
    18. Gentlemen , I think we have an answer I have gone through a lot of data about Wasa Orders to Germans and comparing to Claudius list for 1912 German functionaries and found exactly one (1 ) matching name. Not only has he to be a member of the German functionary team in Stockholm 1912 , he also had to be young enough to go to war in 1914, survive and get the EHK in 1934/35. Dr Paul Emmanuel Karl Martin RWO 1912 If we only had the Braunschweig Honor Cross records , I tried to find anything at Ancestry but it seems that he havent been wounded. The Fracken Spange fits well into his profession as a Dr. I been searching on Ancestry for him and maybe found a clue ?? a Dr Paul Martin was living in Kantstrasse 147 , Berlin in 1919-1928 ( in 1928 he is listed as Regierungsrat) after that I lost track of him A successfull cooperation between US and Sweden Christer
    19. And sometimes you find a real treasure I found this on an auction with with bad pics , so I didnt know in what state it was . But when it arrived it was just wonderful .... Finnish Liberty Cross III cl 1918 civil version Only 221 awarded in 1918 and just 500 made ever !! I have about 180 names so I miss about 40 the collection grows Christer
    20. Arghhh It looks quite convincing after a quick look ....... I really hate these people ...... Christer
    21. Hi Jani , That was interesting news , do you that the digitalizing means that it will be possible to do some reserch online in the future ? Christer
    22. Hallo Andreas , I don´t think there is a list of Liberty Crosses awarded to Germans , at least not open to public. I have a ongoing database for Liberty Crosses and I have probbably all Germans with 1st, second and third class but i miss most of the 4th class awardings. But I will check this evening and see if I have your man in the list I look through the few Germans with 4th Class I had ( 12 ) .... but not your man sorry to say . christer
    23. Without question Onni Kokko was the youngest soldier who was awarded the Finnish Liberty Cross. He was awarded a 4th class 1918 shortly before he died in hospital after gun wounds he got in the battle of Tampere. Onni was born March 4th 1904 and died April 22 1918 only fourteen years old, a tragic ending in a extreme tragic war. He was one of 6261 who got the Liberty Cross 4th cl 1918 with swords. Christer
    24. Here is what the medal should look like I totally agree with Peter , finding an replacement ribbon is probably impossible .... Christer
    25. This small simple looking medal is probably on of the hardest Swedish medals to find in connection with Finlands liberty war in 1918. Its the medal to the Swedish volunteers in the Swedish Brigade , they where about 560 who entered war service and I suppose awarded medals was about that number to, This one is lacking the ribbon and hanger but they are so scarce that I bought it anyway A small but historic piece to my collection Christer
