When I was going through some of the " forgot i had objects" I found this wooden part with some Bronce ? plate attached to it , I bought it on a flee market many many years ago and thought is was some German odd thing.... But when I now looked closer at it I realize that it is not German at alll ! Its a print block for the Finnish Pilot 1918 Pilot badge I have no clue what is was used for , maybe to print award documents ? It is very well made and now when I now what it is a small find to the xcollection (I almost threw it away ) Have anyone seen any similar ?? Christer

I read somewhere that Hermann Göring was awarded hes cross 1st Sept 1934 and Adolf Hitler 4th sept , but I don¨t think they had to apply... So I think an early October award is very early for a normal application. And here is a link to the best Hinderburg Cross site on the net ( only in Deutsch) http://www.weltkriegs-ehrenkreuz.de Christer

I just got in the mail two trench photos with a couple of Officers . At first there wasn´t any special about them , interesting with a Minenwerfer and a trench scope but looked like so many other photos. Until I looked on the backside and it says Lt dR W Busem .... Hmm a quick look in Ancestry and wow ! Lt dR Wilhelm Busem was born March 18th 1892 and joined the Bavarian Pioniers , he got the EK II early in October 21th 1914 and in March 24 1915 he won the Golden Bravery Medal , in May 6th 1916 he got the MVO IV x and two months later the EK I in 28th July 1916. He was in different Pionier Units during 1914-1916 , 2 Bayr Pionier Ersatz Btl , Bayr Reserve Pionier Komp 01, Stab Pionier Batl 17 but ended up in the Flieger Schule !! He started in Bayr Flieger Schule 2 and after July 30th 1918 moved to Flieger Schule 6. Does anyone know if he become a pilot before the end of war ? Or if he survived ? Its interesting how two small photos can become a thrilling story . Christer

A Militärpass found its way to my collection today On the outside it looks like any other pass given to a 30 year old Georg Heinberg.... And when open, we see that he was drafted into the war in August 1915... He was 1,68 cm long and served as a Medic at a reserve Hospital , nothing strange with that ? As you can se he served during all war on Western front . So what the twist ? Aha , take a look on the first page in the pass Where was Hr Heinberg born 30 years earlier ? Yep ! in Brussels , Belgium ! Born in enemy country ! Must have been a strange feeling for him ....... Christer
