    1. mike's nailed it. still would like dimensions. thanks, joe
    2. uwe- (or anyone) can i have an ID on the second, third, fifth, and sixth ribbons? i'm guessing wurtt origin to some. much appreciated! joe
    3. johannes scores again! one of my first EK purchases many years ago, and still in my collection as a constant reminder... joe
    4. with regard to the EK II, the dimensions are more in line with a 1914 or later EK. the reverse has the fit and finish of a typical '14 EK, and while the obverse is smoother than most of the altered EK's i've seen, i still believe it to be altered. it has also been repainted. i will defer to SPM regarding the RAO, but it looks beautiful. joe
    5. frame style would point to inter-war or EARLY WW 2. what a fine addition! joe
    6. thank you, mike! the second seems more in line with what heraldry is all about. joe
    7. maybe the aussie version of sgt. steiner??? is the name of the film just "39th battalion"? i'd love to see it! great find, doc! joe
    8. it would eventually fall off, but the supporting ligaments and cartilage has not degraded enough at this point to break. give it another few weeks... it will. joe
    9. very fine example, les. i have not seen a four-poster such as yours before (purchased by a bed manufacturer?? ) the most holes i've seen are on the plates which end up being sewn to the inside of a jacket. they are much smaller in diameter and number about 20. this one's a first for me, and quite handsome! joe
    10. magnificent shots, and magnificent examples, micha! i am much obliged. the blued example appears to have more of a flat, matte finish, while the painted version is shinier/glossier. (the advantage of having what appear to be mint, unissued examples to compare!) perhaps there is come technical person who could explain what the bluing process is ??? thank you micha. joe
    11. nice acquisition! i wonder if you could post a "side by side" of a high quality blued example vs a painted example? were the painted ones sprayed/dipped? what does "bluing" involve? same as gunmetal? many thanks! joe
    12. rick- your gentle - but firm! - explanation is worth AT LEAST $250!!! gorgeous bar. hope it finds a nice home. joe
    13. nice, original wound badge in great condition! probably ~$40, but it's been a long time since i've bought one. joe
    14. an excellent group of photos! i think Taz's photo best demonstrates the schinkel style: each of the arms "fans out" about 2/3rf's of the way up on the schinkel, whereas the '39 issue and replacement crosses start to "fan out" about a third of the way up the arm. i have always thought the schinkels were so much more delicate appearing, and generally more appealling.... BUT THEY ARE ALL NICE!!! joe
