Hi again! I can't make out one word in the first excerpt. The second excerpt I got (I hope), but it shows more of the handwriting style. This is what I have: "Ließ sich trotz entgegengesetzter ________ nicht davon abbringen, in das stärkste Granatfeuer vorzulaufen, um dort liegenden Verwundeten beizustehen." The second should be: "Nahm sich trotz des heftigen feindl. Artl. Feuers der verwundeten Pferde in besonders anerkennenswerter Weise an."

For Lippe-Detmold, which award? I think Rick and Daniel had done the house order (for both Lippes), and I did the Kriegsehrenkreuz für heldenmütige Tat. There are far too many awards of the Kriegsverdienstkreuz, and there is no roll, only separate receipts for each award. For Mecklenburg-Schwerin, I don't know what is out there. I have a list of awards gazetted in the Regierungsblatt, but the published dates are often way after the award dates, there are many duplicates, no first names, many mis-identified ranks, and they stopped gazetting them in 1917. I have completed about 90% of the Anhalt rolls. I also have about half of the SLK "officers" roll done. I say "officers", because the roll includes Feldwebelleutnants and Offizier-Stellvertreter, so the number of officer awards is less than what the published sources say. Dave

Chris, the first MGSSA doc is signed by Hptm. Freiherr v. Liliencron, but I don't know which Liliencron this would be. The second appears to be "_eydenhauß", but I can't figure out the first letter or find anyone who matches.

He has that most German of first names, "German".

Hi, all Richard Mayer is in the rolls for the Schaumburg-Lippe Kreuz für Treue Dienste as "Feldmarschalleutnant eines österreichischen Korps". The award date was 25.4.1916. Does anyone know what his assignments were during the war? Or his birthdate, for that matter Also awarded the SLK on the same day was Oberstleutnant Karl v. Olleschik, Edler v. Elbheim, listed als "Generalstabschef eines österreichischen Korps". I would assume they were in the same corps, since they were the only Austrians decorated on this date. Olleschik was born on 10.9.1873 in Brünn, by the way, but I am not sure when he died. Thanks, Dave

Hi Christian, The first three are 9 December 1915 and the last four are 24 November 1915. I thought maybe Berndt as well, but I could not identify any as a general staff officer.

Attached is a list of officers who were Austro-Hungarian recipients of the Schaumburg-Lippe Kreuz für Treue Dienste. Unfortunately, many of the names appear to be misspelled and I cannot figure out who several of them are. The names are fairly clear, but except for Kinsky, Tutschner and a misspelled Seyffertitz, I cannot find matches in the k.u.k. Ranglisten or Schemastismuses (Schematismi?). Can anyone help figure them out? This is a scan of a copy of a microfilm image, so the quality is not that great. 629 "Bernds" - ??? 630 "Frhr. v. Seiffertih" = Theobald Frhr. v. Like most Americans, I have two. My father had three, but he never used the third (which was his mother's maiden name). His father and grandfather, who were born in Baden, had two. You can see how strict the smaller states often were with their awards. Although born in Anhalt and still a citizen, Max Möbus was turned down for the Friedrichkreuz because he lived in Aken an der Elbe. Aken was right across the river from Anhalt-Zerbst and was (and is) the ferry connection between Zerbst and Köthen. It is less than 15km from his hometown of Quellendorf. If he had been wounded or received the Iron Cross, Anhalt might have made an exception. I have found such exceptions for some non-residents.

Irgendeiner Stahlwerker?

The only pair I could find without an Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer. One broken sword hilt on the Bewährungsabzeichen, but otherwise nice: I suppose I could cheat and add a trio. Most likely a Bavarian lieutenant in the 4.Infanterie-Regiment:
