And a closeup of the 2nd class (one of the first observed badges of that class). Possibly 4th grade? Not a great image, sorry. Has ANYONE ever seen any photo of any of these in wear? Would probably be more likely come from pre-WWI Russia than from Mongolia??

Document for T NIB 06 -- Badge "Ready for the Defence of Cleanliness" (see http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=10227&st=30 above). A careful translation of teh certificate might tell us more about this badge?

An early Mongol bichig dosument, missing the cover. But still potentially interesting. Less than 100% certain regarding the photo, though, but still interesting.

Yes, Rick. Much to sort out. Need to get all these documents in front of me all at once. But the faces . . . the FACES . . . Mongolian history in images?! -
Yugoslavia Order of Republic
Ed_Haynes replied to new world's topic in Southern European & Balkan States
The whole issue of which Yugoslavian awards were numbered and which were not numbered must rank high among the many things we still need to learn? I am very confused! -

And the same document as an interesting linguistic "mule" (mixed Cyrillic and Mongol Bichig) from about three months before, 6 February 1998.

I am not sure that the rolls were available in Payne's day, but they are today. I believe the medals from his collection, as they have passed down across the generations, have (mostly) been verified as research has become possible and more normal. Remember, he was buying mostly from the veterans themselves or from their sons/daughters. Due to his collecting interests (and mine), I have no "Ex-Payne Collection" items. He carefully avoided medals to Indians, having no sources in the country. Almost makes me wish I did have that link!

Not in very good condition (most of the silver has "evaporated", enamel is knocked about, etc.), but rather uncommon. Badge of the State Prize (1962-70) (A 6.2) Screwplate almost certain replacement.

Oh, yes, quite right. Sorry to miss that !! Missing: Medal "40 Years of the Victory at Khalkin Gol" (A 51).

A nice trio, though you can never be sure whether the medals are a group or a set assembled around three matching documents. Still nice. Need to post some of my recent document groups (which, in the hands of a trickster, can easily become medal groups).
