    1. Ahhhh . . . we now have another candidate: The Dresden-based composer ("Dresden Sketches") and musician Heinz Kunert. Seems more likely than "the other Heinz"? Or is he too young? Still active in 2006. See: http://www.dresden.de/800/de/04/03/c_85.ht...bd02e56d7c11781
    2. Fascinating Lukasz! Another question to send off to Ulanbaatar!!
    3. Let us, please, not get into forum wars here. Some of us have opinions -- -- but'd we'd rather keep them quiet.
    4. Nice thread idea. Posted elsewhere, but my first. Order of Glory, 3rd class, type 2, var. 2 #805395 Acquired 1996 Atlantic Crossroads US $ 20.00 Discussed at http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2329
    5. Most likely from the researcher who may also be gearing up to offer Paul-style authentification certificates.
    6. True, Doc, it is so easy to break rules there. One reason I don't visit or post much. I did so at the specific request of a mutual friend and came to regret it. Still, would hate to see any sibling forums unwell, even the WAF . . . well, . . . .
    7. To he honest, I don't visit there much, but occasionally pop over. When I went over there this mormning, I was greeted by a "THIS ACCOUNT HAS BEEN SUSPENDED" (apparently for non-payment) banner. Did something happen??
    8. Well done, Doc. Thanks for your contributions. Now, on to the next 1K!!
    9. Which groups didn't you get, when you could have, which you'll regret until you die? Mine? Havildar Musharaf Khan:
    10. But, go to any DNW auction, and you can "feel-up" the goodies before the sale commences. I have had the chance to fondle both Probyn's and Gough's VC groups. They both now live, I am told, with Lord Ashcan.
    11. I'd be interested to know too. Have 4-5 meters. (From an old-time military tailor in New Delhi.)
    12. Nope, no armed guards. Just a medal dealer I have dealt with for over thirty years. Have better photos, but here's a group shot of the "first part" of the group to come in (the others followed the next day). All direct from the family. Unfortunately, he had dipped all his copper-nickle medals and made them ugly, but he did it. The (idiot) family de-mounted them all to marlket them. Restricted on the details I can discuss. Sorry. Was sorely tempted, I can say that!
    13. Had the chance to hold one (and the accompanying group) recently. Ooooohhhh!! (Not to market and not to me )
    14. Welcome to the asylum, Rich. We really ARE all quite mad here!
    15. We do need to remember that they are a major world-class auction house, not just a numismatic or phaleristic speciality shop, rather like Spink in this regard. Most of their business is in real art. I'd guess this message is being sent having more to do with icons than with medals.
    16. Or, more likely, that the effective market value of our collections has now fallen to $0,000.00. That it will be impossible (or very difficult) to sell. (Tell Igor and Alexei?) Please send your valueless junk to me.
    17. Better yet, work through his congressman or senator. Even though the elections are over for now, this is just the sort of constitient service they specialise in and often spin into a photo-op. Thanks to my senator, I was able to get my great-grandfather's Civil War campaign medal issued years ago. It came from the Army with a big red "CONGRESSIONAL INTEREST PLEASE EXPEDITE" stamp on the paperwork!
    18. Absolutely correct! We have to put every such scrap of information on the table! Some day, I probably ought to chase down a copy of his book, I guess.
    19. Disturbing, sobering, and not at all surprising. Isn't the posesssion of stolen property pretty generally seen as a crime?
