    1. Good to know so would you say the above is a genuine example? I'd still not touch one of these with a 10 foot pole as i've hear 99 of 100 that a person see's are fake. Whats your thought on this? Cheers Chris
    2. Kevin does Grade A+ work very impressive and has experience in dealing with both the NA and India Office. Cheers Chris
    3. I would just like to point one thing out about this order. The one illustrated above is a fake. The real obvious thing about it is the engraved serial number. It should be a minimum of six digits with zeros leading for example: 001234 or 000123. I don't have a picture of an original on hand but i know that this is a dead give away. The much larger zero compared to the other numbers also points at being fake. Cheers Chris
    4. First Post is Definately from the period 1917-1921. Showing a mix of units from both the British and Canadian forces during this time.
    5. spotted this one for comparison today. http://www.emedals.ca/catalog.asp?item=GEM636#bigPic
    6. I would not touch a Telic with a 10 foot pole right now. It's common knowledge in the world of UK medals that several key factors which will affect the long term price are currenty happening. 1. Duplicate issues are numerous in fact i know of a person locally who was awarded 2 of the same medal. He recevied one after his first tour and another after his second apparently this is a very common occurance which should not occur. 2. Fakes and forgeries with naming and boxes etc. are common but of very good quality. (Yours looks OK and i'll tell you why in a moment) 3. Quite afew soldiers have been caught selling their or their fellow squadies medals online and then replacement issues get issued. 4. I've heard that The Telic without bar is going to be just as common as the GSM bar Northern Ireland given time. (Yours has the date clasp so thats good) The reason i say yours is good is because that discoloration around the naming is caused by the heat (and fumes generated) by the Laser used to engrave it. Copies havn't been laser engraved (that i know of). Cheers Chris
    7. Yep i agree 100% not the same bar but made most likely at the same time. Very nice additon now if only we could track you down the group.....
    8. This Bar along with the corresponding full sized medals were sold to one buyer by myself a little over a year ago. It's a shame that they've been split. see here: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=31666 Hmm taking a second look there seem to be some slight differences perhaps another of the same mans bar??? Cheers Chris
    9. Thank you for all the feedback everyone it's all be greatly constructive. I've have looked at another MIC for another man I knew is entitled to the IASM and his was issued in the first quarter of 1930 and his medal is an original issue with Kurdistan bar. I'll have to check several more specifically issued with no bar to see if i can develope this more. Unfortunately this is all to build just a strong theory as definative proof has slipped away with the passing of Moore. Great conversation piece Cheers Chris
    10. Thank you Owain for your educated opinion. Sorry for the late thank you To add a little more to this discussion I've developed a theory why this would have been made. Moore received his Official Medal on Jan. 1 1931. I believe if he knew he was entitled and others (perhaps in the RAF) had already received theirs prior he wanted to show his entitlement and had this piece commisioned. This theory is dependent on the date that other recipients began receiving their medals though. If they did start receiving there medals in 1926-27 there would be a gap between entitlement and issuance that i believe this medal would have filled. To further back this up i've seen similar cases with British recipients before (always officers to). Any thoughts??? Cheers Chris
    11. Thank you Gentlemen I really appreciate your help in confirming originality. I'm going to Western Canada's largest Militaria show on April 10th and there will be some really big name medal dealers there so i think i'll take this beauty with me to the show as barter material as i'm sure they'll have some must haves for me to buy. If it doesn't go then i'll list it for sale here on the forum. Cheers Chris
    12. Short answer is no. I've never heard of it before and i believe the stucture of those awards is first awarding 3rd class, 2nd awarding 2nd class and 3rd awarding 1st class. I must admit i'm still learning but i'm pretty confident that my understanding of glories is correct. Cheers Chris
    13. I don't have a fine enough scale to weigh it but its 32mm in dia. its made of silver (no hallmarks) the designers name is on it and says J. Lerglerco (could be Lerglercq). When i got this in the mail it had attached to the top a mount from a british ISM held on by glue. So i submersed it in nail polish remover and the glue came of easily with no harm to the medal.
    14. I think its the "Much Cares" part but i think thats starting to change (so buy up those named groups). The one huge obstacle is the amount of research one can do on an individual soldier. Units and casualties can be researched to a certain extents but still not as much as other Commonwealth countries. Just my thoughts on the matter Cheers Chris
    15. Not so weird in my eyes. If it is again a Boots. Many who collect British medals seem to be purists in the sense if it's not officially named or privately named with signifigant documentation that links that particular medal to the person then they are weary of it. That's even more true for named up single gallantry medals that were issued unnamed. In the last DNW auction (i think it was DNW) there was a single Distinguished service cross named up to a man who earned it in an Arctic convoy came with some douments i believe However afew years ago Eugene Ursual sold the whole group with another named up DSC and paper work to a person who still has the whole group in his collection. Which would you be inclined to believe was the original issued? Some very bad people in the world who we all know find documents and manufacture groups. Cheers Chris
    16. The back of the Suspension is marked Quinn Thanks again Chris
    17. I've have this medal in my possesion and am preparing to part with it in order to fund research for my Soviet Medals. But before i post it in the for sale section i was wondering if i could get some opinions on authenticity. I know its a pretty hard medal to find as proven in a recent ebay auction where one sold for over $690cdn. but with that said prices on Ebay are nuts period. Thanks for you opinions. Cheers Chris
    18. I once bought a partially erased QSA but with the details that remained i was able to piece together who the recipient was and about 2 years later through sheer chance managed to have it reunited with his KSA and ww1 medals. Talk about saved from the scarp pile. As for $170cdn not a terrible price considering our crap dollar at the moment. If your serious about delving into this field i'd be more than willing to help you with research and checking over perspective purchases as i'm sure many here would be. Cheers Chris
    19. A Long overdue shipment has finally arrived and this medal was one of the pieces inside. Can anyone tell me what it is??? What kind of mintage? What was it awarded for? Did i come in different Grades? HELP!!! Chris
    20. I truly do love these researched groups keeps the history alive. Excellent
    21. I have a strong feeling that this is an example of boots naming. I need larger pics of the engraving to be sure.
    22. I have this variety in my collection at home i'll take a photo of it tonight to compare. I don't want to say anything yet as i'd just be working from memory. Cheers Chris
    23. Keane, John Corps Regiment No Rank Royal Dublin Fusiliers 43117 Private Labour Corps 512522 Private Check ancestry for his service file and MIC and if nothing is available it's on the UK NA website Cheers Chris
    24. Thanks for all the great Feedback and I believe Eric is spot on in his assessment of the situation. I was very pleased with what the research turned up and i don't think i could have asked for a better first group (on my budget). Rick heres the OG3 hand written citation. Is the previous translation accurate? Cheers and thanks again Chris
