    1. Alex, Thanks for the correction, which I used to fix my post. I have several German naval rating descriptions and the names for certain positions seem to vary from source to source. Chip
    2. Thanks for the explanations. I certainly was not intending to say, nor did I say anything about the merits of those helping Rick's mother garner the best results she can obtain. I obviously know nothing about the process and thus the questions. Best regards, Chip
    3. Hi Mark, Could you be more specific? Which bayonet are you needing a frog for? Chip
    4. From my insignia collection, three Marine-Flieger related sleeve rates. Fluggast, Oberflugmechanikermaat, Oberflugmaat.
    5. Thanks for the announcement. I took a look at the items and it seems to me that many things from Rick's collection are not there. He had a nice collection of insignia (shoulder boards, sleeve insignia) from what I could tell from his posts over the years. I don't see much of anything that he had represented in this auction. Is there more to come in later auctions? I'm also curious as to why a foreign auction house is selling his items. I suppose it is for maximum exposure, but it just seems somewhat odd. Are the items shipping from the U.S or have they already been shipped to Europe? Regards, Chip
    6. ...and that's the thanks I get for helping you out. My underwear go back in the trunk!
    7. Eric, Your description is a direct translation of Kraus. 10cm x 18cm vs 12cm x 18cm. Doesn't seem like much difference to me. So, my question remains, if it's not a Salzbeutel, what is it? There is no mention in Kraus of any wool being used in issue shirts. Chip
    8. Eric, Is there any evidence of this one having any of the NCO state Borte on the collar? It should have had some. Chip
    9. Eric, I have never heard of an issue "neck pouch". Where did you come up with that? I have several photos of Salzbeutel and they sure look like this. What did you mean "what "bits" are in it?"? Nicht verstehe.... Chip
    10. By statute, the Württemberg infantry went to all Swedish cuffs in order to simplify production. I have it in my notes somewhere. My 1915 dated Waffenrock to the I.R.127 has Swedish cuffs. Chip
    11. Hello, I just meant that this is the imperial German forum and you might get better results posting your thread on the TR uniform forum.
    12. These shirts are a mixture of materials. They are either all cotton linen twill (leicht Baumwollköper) or a cotton jersey (Trikot) with linen collar and cuffs. All buttons are cloth covered. Further changes in the material were necessitated as the cotton shortage got more severe. The Trikot material came to be made from a mixture of synthetic cotton (Kunstbaumwolle), cotton waste (Baumwollabfällen) and virgin cotton (reiner Baumwolle). Chip
    13. OK, you just threw that Salzbeutel in there to keep my attention off of the sweater. Chip
    14. Thanks Andy. I never thought to look in Pietsch. I was used to seeing the post-1894 insignia (same as the Waffenrock) and was unfamiliar with the earlier chevron system. Chip
    15. Hardy, Sorry, I don't know of the specifics. In reading Kraus, he mentions the shortening and shortages of materials, but gives no specific dates. It's probably in the AVBs or KMEs somewhere. Once the change to the Einheitsborte was made on August 17, 1915 via a KM order, it was only little more that a month until the full length was order to be restored. It was not until the later shortages that the papercloth braid was introduced and it was also meant for the full circumference of the collar. Chip
