    1. The medal itself may be interesting due its unique ribbon and its path back into history, but awarding a medal for being shot at is, in my opinion, completely crazy, as the most US awards are nowadays. Its just too much ribbons and medals for almost nothing, except some of the serious ones like the MoH, Silver Star, DSC etc. They begin like we in WW1, as the Iron Cross 1914 moved from a gallantry award into a "War Commemoration Cross" because of just too many handed out for almost nothing.
    2. Thanks for the link. I know this site, thats why I am asking ;-)
    3. Any opinions about this named Purple Heart with slot brooch? Is it a period/official engraving and how can I research the name? Maybe he was killed in action? Thanks!
    4. Well done!!! You identified one of the best makers of the EK!!!!! http://www.carldillenius.de
    5. I just want to inform you again about our Verdun-Forum (in english language!). We got many more categories now, including a trenchmap-subforum: http://forum.battleofverdun.nl
    6. If he studied medicine before the war, they possibly used him as Feldhilfsarzt or something like that.
    7. Thanks Rick!!! Can you post the name of the 1917 recipient too? Maybe also his unit? I will try to find out if any of these units were fighting at the eastern front, that might help with the bulgarian cross. But as officer he should have gotten the order, not the silver cross from Bulgaria, or?
    8. Any chance to ID him? I was told he was a doctor with the name Kaufmann from Breslau, but that may be wrong. But I think the combination with the bulgarian one is not too common.
    9. Thanks! I only wish it would be my medal-bar. But the collector who owns it was told, this officer was probably a pilot. I think the same due this combination of awards. Maybe a rank like Oberleutnant or Hauptmann.
    10. Unfortunately not mine but I am posting this one for another collector. He said, it could be a pilot:
    11. Very very nice caps Chris!!!!! I love the last one for Alpenkorps! I make nice repros of them too, so if someone is interested... http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=21574
    12. Thats the tube of the detonator. It should be empty, or?
    13. The one you have has got a detonator. Its the brass tube at its lower end. There is also a version of this fuse without detonator.
    14. I would restore it with filling the rust holes, completing the fins and painting it feldgrau.
