    1. Hello Gentlemen, Here with obverse and reverse. Thanks to Bigjarofwasps to have catch this new medal first. Cheers. Emmanuel
    2. Hello Gentlemen, I had heard about fake of the Sultan Ibrahim Coronation Medal 2015, without seeing one, but here it is. It's aFake 2nd Class !!! I do not know if 3rd Class Medal in bronze have been faked. On original medals, the details are crisp. I hope it could help you, not to buy, if ever these fakes comes up to ebay, or others plateform. Regards to all. Emmanuel
    3. Hello JapanX, My aim was to emphase that, Korean Republic award system being one of the most difficult to understand, and to follow, because of it's main 3 variation, but also because there is sub variation even inside the 3 main group of insignia. I'am sure you know. It's because I love that that I'am not lost, and I'am sure you're not lost either. But most people are. From 1967 to 69, the 2nd Class breast star of the Order of Diplomatic Merit was said to be 45 degree rotating, if you compare to the 1st Class breast star (but still with pin vertical). I never saw such a breast star (even if according to the BIG 1070 page orange book : Mongaha, it was similar but just rotating...it's Page 637 ). I will try to do a photo with I Phone. In Phaleristic, the devil can hide in the detail. I would really have the opinion of Don Pfeifer, because him, he knows more, he's the onliest non korean that had had access to Republic of Korea State Archives concerning Order (he's perfectly fluent in korean). Actually for long time, the 2nd Class was not any more with the sash pink with dark grey stripes,....but it seems that they choose to re-instaure it. Don Pfeifer was maintaining his own web page for a while, but I was not able to found it back (it was something in : home.earthlink.net.....but it seems inactive now Regards. Emmanuel

    5. Here , and it's the last bruneian medal of this medal group, the Brunei Medal for 50th Anniversary of its Armed Forces. This medal is made by Royal Insignia, and is made of silver-gilt. Regards to all. Emmanuel
    6. Because there is rare occasion to see the 4 Type of the General Service Medal, here they are. Many believes the Type 2 was not awarded, but I got one such a medal, mounted on a group. The Type 4 shows minor modification on the crown in center, but it's NOT a variation, it's a new type. Regards to all. Emmanuel
    7. This is the Pigat Laila Tugas, Brunei General Service Medal Type 4. This medal was instituted in 1965. It changed shape for the 1st time in 1984 (not for long), then a 3rd Type was instituted, and later much later a Type 4. Regards to all. Emmanuel
    8. This is the Brunei Golden Jubilee Medal. It was instituted in October 2017 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Sulytan Hassanal Bolkiah. It exist in 3 Classes. Not owning a medal (apart from the one in the group ), I have use the photo of Royal Insignia Web Site to display the features of the medal. One notable recipient is Aung San Suu Kyi. Regards to all. Emmanuel
    9. The 1st Type medal was produced by Spink, and is made of silver. The 2nd Type is made by Royal Insignia of Singapore, and is made of Silver Plated Rhodium. Regards to all. Emmanuel
    10. Here is the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian from Brunei. This medal was instituted in 1954, but somewhen, could be after Independence in 1984, the reverse of the medal was altered from an english speaking legend to a malay legend. Photo of obverse and reverse on next post. Regards. Emmanuel
    11. Hello to all. First the Diplomatic Merit Order of the Republic of Korea exist on this shape since 1967, the large modification of Order and Medal system of Korea occured in 1973 (not 1972 ). And the onliest 2 award that saw almost no modification were the Order of Great Mugunghwa (for head of States), and the Order of Diplomatic Merit. Of course since 1967 there had been some minor changes in the Order, like the 2nd Class, who at first had a sash & a breast star, but later was a neck Order and a breast star. There was also for some time a sash pink with black edged stripes, but this is now obsolete. Second, I suggest our Moscow friend not to act, as if he is a GMIC Guru, because concerning Republic of Korea, the Guru is Don Pfeiffer. Regards to all. Emmanuel
    12. Hello Gentlemen, Last year I have been able to acquire a very rare group, a Brunei Peacekeeping. Brunei is participating to UNIFIL since 2008, but send no more than 30 troops. They operates in jointly with the Malaysian Battaillon ( MALBAT ). On this group you got 4 Brunei Medal, then 1 from Malaysia, 1 from Lebanon, & 2 from the UN. Brunei Pingat Jasa Kebaktian ( Meritorious Service Medal ) Type 2. Brunei Medal for Golden Jubilee of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah 1967-2017. Brunei Pingat Laila Tugas ( General Service Medal ) Type 4. Brunei Medal for the 50th Anniversary of Brunei Armed Forces 1961-2011. Malaysia PNBB Pingat Negara Bangsa Bersatu (with clasp Lebanon ). Lebanon Military Valour Medal. United Nation UNIFIL MEDAL. DANCON/UNIFIL March Medal (unofficial). In later post I will show close up pictures, and the Brunei Medal one by one. Regards to all. Emmanuel

      Mali

Hello Gentlemen, As many of you may have heard, there has been a Coup in Mali, and President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita ( known as IBK ) has resigned. Lets' have a look at some photo from the Leader (what it seems to be the Leader, as it occured 2 days ago), Colonel Malick Diaw. However it seems that it is Colonel Assimi Goita who is now presented as the Leader of the Coup ( I have not been able to get a photo this Colonel with Medals ). On the First Photo, on "Parade" Uniform he is wearing Cross of Military Valour and Medal of Military Merit. On the Second Photo in Field Uniform, he is wearing Cross of Military Valour, Medal of Military Merit, and Commemorative Medal of Campaign. We can bet that the Commemorative Medal of Campaign was awarded as such to malian army troops involved in operation against jihadist in North Mali since 2012, thus no specific medal seems to have been issued for this long lasting war. If anyone on this forum may have records, for which purpose he got awarded the Cross of Military Valour, that would be interesting. Regards to all. Emmanuel
    14. Hello Doc Blas, Ok, I agree that the National Artist badge hung on a neck ribbon is not the way it has to be worn, and as I bought it from Zamora, it make sense. But this badge looks like a Collar Badge, without its suspension. And again it make sense. Often manufacturer of Orders & Medals produce insignia to show to Government Representative, hoping they could approve them. This happens in almost every country in the world. Concerning Order of Kalianto, as so few information were available, I have reported what I found, and in the Reynolds Book there is no entry on Order of Kalianto, because Reynolds is only about military awards. So I wrote a mistake, but at least I show a photo of the award. You did correct my mistake, but you add no photo to increase the data base of this forum.....(a bit sad). Best regards. Emmanuel
    15. Hello Gentlemen, Many many "fantasy" fake Order coming out from China, a lot of them never ever have existed in the 1910..1920ies...30ies at all. So....beware of "odd items". One of the main common thing about these fake, is the poor quality of enameling, that doesn't match what was the then quality o enameling "cloisonné" or not that was used in the 1910ies, 20ies, 30ies..... Also these fakes are NOT silver, but made of poor quality metal alloy, that are silvered...... Keep in mind, that for Orders of China, before 1937...and after for ROC ( Republic of China ), they were silver gilt. Medal from that era were sometimes made of silver. If you got the opportunity to "touch" the item before, the sensation of touch feeling is not the same, as silver is cold, when you touch it, but the sensation feeling when you touch something in poor quality alloy, it's not the same. Also "faker" will use whatever trick could be, to deceive collector, by intending to states that they are selling a very rare, early variation, or later one, but not yet known from collectors, => use common sense, do not believe in fairy tales. And this apply to many fields of the phaleristic. Regards to all. Emmanuel
    16. Here to make this topic more easy, I include the wikipedia page concerning Sir Lloyd William Mathews https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lloyd_Mathews And Arthur Raikes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Raikes Regards to all. Emmanuel
    17. Here is the last entry on the London Gazette, from 3 September 1902 concerning the award of an Order of Hamudieh 1st Class to Alexander Stuart Rogers, Esq Alexander Stuart Rogers was awarded this Order, only due to his appointment as Regent for Sultan Ali, who in 1902 was attending the Coronation of King Edward VII on 9 August 1902, but while abroad, his father passed away on 18 July 1902. Sultan Ali was only made aware of the death of his father, when on the boat that sailed him back to Zanzibar. https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/27471/page/5751 http://oldafricamagazine.com/a-s-rogers-controversial-british-official/ The ways of Stuart Rogers in Zanzibar are considered as rough, chaotic, with lots of inefficience in his administration. Sultan Ali attained his majority in 1905, thus ending the role of Rogers as Regent. Photo below is of Sultan Ali ( 1902-1911 ) Regards to all. Emmanuel
    18. Here is the entry of the London Gazette from 21 June 1898, concerning the award of the Order of Hamudieh 1st Class to Vice Admiral Harry Rawson. https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/26979/page/3769 He was initially get to get awarded the Order of the Brillant Star 1st Class, If someone on this forum knows why he was getting at the end the Hamudieh Order , instead of the Brillant Star, would be very interesting. Regards to all. Emmanuel
    19. Here are the entries from the London Gazette from 25 August 1897. https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/26886/page/4812 Regards to all. Emmanuel
    20. It exist some miniatures of the Order of Hamudieh. They are very very rare of course. This one was sold on a London Auction in 2016. Regards to all. Emmanuel
    21. These are the awards that were presented to Dr George Allardice MacDonald ( 1869-1960 ). Our estimed member Elmar Lang ( Enzo ), shall be credited for this amazing photo. Regards to all. Emmanuel
    22. Dr George Allardice MacDonald was first to be awarded the 4th Class of the Order of Hamudieh (in total only 11 such awards were gazetted). I can assume, by comparing size on a photo where other award to Dr MacDonald are presented, that this Order of Hamudieh 4th Class shall be about 57 to 60 Millimeters wide. The photo of this 4th Class is taken from the UBS Catalogue of 2008. He was awarded this Order for his work during the bombardement of Zanzibar on 28 August 1896. The London Gazette of 25 August 1897 is known to us, Whitehall, August 25, 1897. The Queen has been pleased to give and grant unto each of the undermentioned Officials of the Zanzibar Government, Her Majesty's Royal licence and authority that he may accept and wear the insignia of the Order appearing against his name, conferred upon him by His Highness the Sultan of Zanzibar in recognition of his servuces while actually and entirely employed beyond Her Majesty's Dominions in His Highness Service......Order of Hamondieh of the Fourth Class George Allardyce Macdonald, Zanzibar Government Medical Officer in charge of Hospital during the bombardement. (Sic "Allardyce spelling). I have to pay tribute to our member Djedj who made this entry concerning this award, on another post, started by Elmar Lang on Zanzibar Orders, Decorations and Medals on 1st December 2007. Regards to all. Emmanuel
    23. The 3rd Class of the Order of Hamudieh was only awarded 7 times. This specific insignia is part of the awards to Dr. George Allardice Macdonald . Dr MacDonald was the Principal Medical Officer in Zanzibar from 1896 to 1918. He was born in 1869, and passed away in 1960. Sadly the UBS Catalogue from Tammam Collection sale of November 2008 does not gives the size of this insgnia, but having comparing the photo of all the awards of Dr MacDonald, and he was also awarded Order El Alijeh 3rd Class (which I know the size); I can then assume that this breast star is about 60 to 62 Millimeters. You can still see in the center of this breast star, the cypher of the Sultan : Sayyid Hamoud bin M'hamed bin Said 1314. The photo of this breast star is taken from the UBS Catalogue of November 2008.
