Bretzen replied to ilieff's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Hello gentlemen, another photo of a German World War I veteran who received some Bulgarian awards. Unfortunately an unknown - probably Bavarian - officer. The photo was taken around 1941 in Wehrmacht uniform. cheers Uwe .... and two unknown Bulgarian soldiers. Such original photos are very difficult to find in Germany. -

Bulgaria, medal bar for an bulgarian officer.
Bretzen replied to Bretzen's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Hello gentlemen, I am very pleased to have received a reply at all. And then also from three proven Bulgaria specialists. Maybe in the future there will be a possibility for a research in a Bulgarian archive. This is probably the only possibility. A German order buckle with this number of medals would be probably no difficulty - of course also only with archive research. Thank you for the effort of writing your text. I am grateful that my terrible English with the help of translation programs allows me to write here in this forum more often in the future. cheers Uwe Bretzendorfer -
Bulgaria Queen Clementine Medal
Bretzen replied to Yankee's topic in Central & Eastern European States
hello Yankee, may I can help a little: the decoration was instituted on 22 May / 3 June 1899 by a Princely Rescript on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Princess Clementine, the Mother of Bulgaria?s Ruling Monarch - Prince (later King) Ferdinand I. It came in three classes - Gold, Silver and Bronze, to be awarded to all officers, non-commissioned officers and enlisted men serving in the 9 th Infantry Plovdiv Regiment which was placed under the patronage of Princess Clementine. The Gold badge was bestowed upon senior officers, the Silver - upon junior officers (up to captain), the Bronze - upon non-commissioned officers and enlisted men, all serving in the Regiment, for long and loyal service. The badge was worn on the left breast, suspended from a black ribbon with blue border stripes on both sides. best wishes Uwe (Bretzen) -
Hello Gents, after a visit in the "Staatsarchiv Stuttgart" her the accurate informations about the production of the golden bravery medals under the government of King Wilhelm II. of Wuerttemberg: 1st type: GOLD 986/000 weight: 17,5 g without ribbonring and "?se", produced from 1892 - 1914 206 pieces 2nd type: GOLD 585/000 weight: 16 g without ribbonring and "?se", produced 1914 /1915 313 pieces 3rd type: GOLD 585/000 weight: 13 g without ribbonring and "?se", produced 1915 288 pieces 4th type: GOLD 333/000 weight: 13 g without ribbonring and "?se", produced 1915 - 1918 3804 pieces - al these medals are marked "333" in the ?se IMPORTANT: you have to add to every golden medal 0,2 g for the ?se and 0,4 or 0,5 g for the ribbonring. so the absolutly minimum weight for a real gold medal is 13,6 g NOT one medal was manufactured in the Mint of Stuttgart in silver gilt or in bronze gilt !!!!!
