    1. I propose we resurrect this one every month or so just to see how we're doing...
    2. Based upon our earlier conversation, Chris, I couldn't resist resurrecting this old thread! So, how many Italian medals you need to unload now? Here's another of mine...(unfortunately someone put a thumbtack through the original silk ribbon). This medal commemorates Italy receiving the Trentino and Trieste after World War 1 - thus, continuing the "unification" of Italy. Medaglia commemorativa dell'Unità d'Italia 1848-1918
    3. Here is my piece... A "F.M. Lorioli-Castelli" version... Unfortunately, no bars...
    4. I'm fairly certain this is Italian. Maybe Fascist because of the October 1922 (in Roman numerals on the reverse)?
    5. Image of the medal with it's ribbon (from Italian eBay)
    6. Okay, I know the name of the medal...even in Italian... Medaglia per le Madri e vedove dei Caduti I can't find too much online about the medal... Is it WW1 or WW2 era? I've seen one reference that it was instituted in 1919 or 1922. So, possibly a commemorative for those who lost loved ones in the Great War? I've also seen it related to the Associazione Nazionale Madri e Vedove dei Caduti... Unofficial or was this awarded by the Government?
    7. Yea, Austrian still is easy to obtain at reasonable prices...
    8. My ... Bronzene Tapferkeitsmedaille Franz Josef and Karl ...
    9. I have thought about picking up one of these off eBay. Images of Doughboys in Paris... Parlez-vous Francais? Mademoiselle from Armentieres You might forget the gas and shells, Parley-voo. You might forget the gas and shells, Parley-voo. You might forget the groans and yells But you'll never forget the mademoiselles, Hinky, dinky, parley-voo.
    10. Thanks for the comment. I picked it up cheap ... in either Hungary or Austria...
    11. The cap is interesting... Didn't know that was the style for Communist Bulgaria. Thanks for sharing.
    12. Here's the later version with Kaiser Karl in silver Silberne Militärverdienstmedaille "Signum laudis" Kaiser Karl I. Replacement ribbon.
    13. Well, over 3 years later, I finally did some "digging"... Nothing engraved on the rim... But a nice Bronzene Militärverdienstmedaille (" Signum laudis") am Band des Militärverdienstkreuzes mit Schwerter
    14. Thanks, Dave! Also for the response on the Liberty Medal topic...
    15. That is a maker's mark for "Winter & Adler" Not all zinc versions have a marked rim; many have no maker's mark at all. I also believe there are other maker's marks other than "W&A"... I believe most have the engraver's name under the neck "R. PLACHT"... Although some do not. I do not know if there are other engraver names. My Verwundetenmedaille ... Marked "W&A" on the rim... Engraver "R. PLACHT"
    16. Another common KuK medal seen in the photo thread that doesn't have a good topic of it's own... Awarded to soldiers, regardless of rank, who had been with a combatant unit for at least twelve weeks and who had actually served at the front.
    17. More discussion in this other GMIC thread regarding the different inscriptions... SIGNVM MEMORIAE MEDALS Seems that there are some references for the different inscriptions for the "Zivil" and "Militär" medal
    18. This Eiserne Verdienstkreuz has seen better days...
    19. Here is my piece... Eiserne Verdienstkreuz mit Krone am Kriegsband
    20. Here is my piece Jubiläums-Medaille 1898 für Zivilstaatsbedienstete It has the inscription FRANC.IOS.I.D.G.IMP.AVST.REX.BOH.ETC.ET.REX AP.HVNG. I wonder if we can get any new information regarding the different inscriptions as discussed in Posts #9 and #11 above... From my totally unscientific and hasty research; several images of the "Zivil" and "Militär" medal online suggest that the inscriptions are in fact different for each class (rather than different producers). I think I have two more of these medals some place...just need to find them...
    21. The thread with photos of KuK soldiers wearing decorations has been very successful... Unfortunately, many of the medals in the photos are buried in anonymous topics within this forum. So, while this is a relatively common medal, I thought I'd post it because it shows up in the photo thread... This is on the "military ribbon"... there is also a "civil ribbon," which is all red - Jubliäumskreuz für Zivilstaatsbedienstete. There was even a gold plated version of the medal on the ribbon for the Leopold Order, awarded to members of the Imperial Court - Juliläums-Hofkreuz.
    22. I would have to agree that "mit Schwerter" was not "official" on this medal, more accurately known in German as... "Errinnerungsmedaille für die Landesverteidigung von Tirol 1914-1918" The medal and ribbon bars I've seen with this medal do not have swords...while the medals that should have swords...do have them; for example, "Erinnerungsmedaille für Weltkriegsteilnehmer 1914 - 1918 mit Schwerter" Nonetheless, my piece has been "embellished" "mit Schwerter" and they seem to have been there for awhile.
    23. I assume these medals were awarded to NCOs and soldiers - with the Order of Liberty Cross being the officer award... Anyone know the Finnish language name?
    24. Here's my contribution to the discussion... Anyone know the Finnish language name for the medal?
