    1. 40th anniversary medal of the MPR n?14 ??? Did you get the medals also? Jan
    2. Oh what the heck, let's start a Mongolian award quiz So on second thought and after more thorough consideration I'd say a Polar Star Order, awarded around 1983. Jan
    3. Hahaha, that will teach me trying to read the post diagonnally when I have little time, and then making bold statements Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. I say we wait for the doc and check the inside doublespread, before I embarrass myself again Best regards Jan
    4. What medal/order it is, its number and award date are written on the following double page. Judging from the number on page 1, I would guess it is a 1980's honorary labour medal. Jan
    5. Christophe, isn't there one more inside page following this one? Jan
    6. Aagh, how my poor heart aches, seeing these pix. Keep 'em coming Ed, if I almost close my eyes and look through the slits at your pictures, I feel as if I'm there... except for the cold of course. Please give my warmest regards to Bat Jan
    7. This is very intersting, I'll be checking my days for more mystery signatures. Keep up the good work JC Thanks Jan
    8. You're going back , unfortunately there isn't a "green-with-envy" smiley I'll be walking the rounds with you in my head, enjoy lovely Mongolia Jan
    9. Not quite what you are thinking I'm sure I was wondering where those creative designers got their ideas when drawing a new badge, well from their neighbours it would appear. Here are a few examples, don't hesitate to post more.
    10. It looks like I06 Soviet-Mongolian friendship society badge. Some nice metal ribbons underneath the badge Jan
    11. Oh my..., this is the first time I see an order booklet with so many entries, and what about those low numbers. Now that would be one group I would love to have in my collection Jan
    12. Much to philosophize about indeed. Nice one, Ed (once again ) Jan
    13. Ed, although the numbers are still akward, 36 would be 1946 and not 1956, since they started counting from 1911 as being year 1 Jan
    14. Dear Christian, I do not think this forum, and in particular this thread, are meant to discuss someone's character and/or reputation, and definitely not to settle any personel problems you might have with another member of the forum. Let us please go back to the cavaliers Jan
    15. Thanks for sharing Ed, it's so nice to see a group with a name, instead of all those type & variation singles Jan
    16. To narrow it down, I think Mr Post7 is probably an Uzbek, seeing he has the Uzbek Jasorat medal Jan
    17. Well, we have identified the Mongolian awards for you, plus some others as well, so I think we did quite well Jan
    18. He must have been tall too, because you can see from the perspective of the pic, the photographer had to "shoot" upwards. Maybe it could have been a very little photographer of course, mmm Jan
    19. In know it is very sad, but I have to admit I have none
    20. The cross with the palm on the ribbon left of the victory ordres is the French war cross Just to the right of the Virtuti Militare breastplate is the sash badge of the L?gion d'honneur, on the left of the VM is of course the breatsplate of the L?gion d'honneur. Jan
    21. Yes those are Red Banner of Military Valor orders with underneath on the left the Khalkhin Gol badge and on the right 2nd type of the Order of the Republic of the People's republic of Tuva Jan
    22. Wow Ed, some of these are amongst the most esthetically pleasing badges I've seen, especially the circus and theatre badges. Mmm, will have to do some hunting to get these for my collection Jan
    23. I think I know how you feel Ed, I tried to get people interested in Mongolian on other fora, at collector's meetings, no one was really listening. Then there was,...euh...well "here", and a great exchange of knowledge happened. But all the knowledge I painstakingly gathered over several years of collecting was "shared" within a couple of weeks, don't get me wrong that was a good thing. Knowledge needs to be shared. Now knowledge is still painstakingly gathered, but the process is much slower, especially since we know already quite a few things, types and variations are mostly identified, dates deciphered, a certain awarding chronology established, okay okay Polar stars excluded Knowledge gaps exist for the rarer awards, but mainly because they are...rare, they will not easily be filled seeing how much one has to pay to add one to one's collection, let alone own several to be able to compare. I was already running out of affordable options to further my collection, when the following hype exploded even some of the affordable badges suddenly became very expensive. I think I paid 200 US for my KGB badge, and I would have loved to buy a few more, but not at current prices. So financial considerations have dramatically slowed down my mongolian collection train, I still cherish what I have, but is has been ages since I added something. Ed, I for one immensely appreciate the effort you make to keep posting all those wonderful goodies, even though I do not reply in these threads, because I have unfortunately nothing to add. I do hope we will have some research possibilities soon, as I am sure that would bring life back into this forum, which by the way, is still the number one place for Mongolian OMD's. Just my two tugruks Jan
    24. Don't want to make too many double posts, but I think the picture is more relevant here Soviet Osoaviakhim badge with numbered screwnut
