    1. Come on Chuck! It's just a language barrier - nothing more. Unfortunately I can't find anything on this mysterious "middle" badge. When (and if) I'll find anything - I let you know. Regards, Nick
    2. Rainbow?! I heard these are pretty rare Usually it's simply a dead eyed warlord (sometimes even without eyes) ....

    5. Excellent article as always dear Brian! "Members of the great unwashed masses" Indeed! Unfortunately too many of them around recently. All they care about is "how much?", "is it simply rare or extra super rare?"... Best, Nick
    6. Aha! But we all know that your name is Paul. What leaves us only one option
    7. A little add-one about "Zemstvo" badge. Silver badge was for officials of 6 and 7 ranks. Gold badge for officials with ranks above or equal 6. P.S. Chuck, badge description (although not very exact) you will find in the book that you mentioned (on the very same page 12) under #9 (you mistook it with #13).
    8. This is commemorative badge that was issued on the fiftieth anniversary of introduction of "Zemstvo" (elective district councils). Badge was introduced on January 3, 1914. There were two types of such badges: gold and silver.
    9. Chuck, this is a badge of physician that has degree of "Lekar". Introduced on February 15, 1897. Snakes and cup should have blue enamel (looks like it is completely lost)
    10. Chris, I think partly this is because of the light (but I believe we can see yellowness that is so dear to your heart ) + medal was covered in deep black patina, so seller decided (like she does it from time to time ) to do some presale cleaning (I think special cleaning agent for bronze). Voilà tout
    11. It's rare of course! Especially when we compare it with our usual banal medals. And yes, still no cases (except wrapper that we saw) and no docs. I know what you are thinking about Rich "Never really issued" It is indeed possible ...
    12. You see ribbons are another strange "go figure" mystery. Ribbons look like originals (although they look like they also had contact with some kind chemical (?), cleaning liquid (?) ) Interesting, that reverse of boxer bar is not gilded and we see the typical texture of typical bar for typical boxer medal
    13. YJ naturally Btw, all other medals from the same seller look perfectly ok.
    14. Interesting that much more rare Korea Census medals have this feature too ;)
    15. That's what I am talking about!
    16. And ... he returns with booty before the Sunday Check out this medal (if possible, please repost close-ups of obverse and reverse in our thread ) http://members.shaw.ca/nambuworld/census.htm
    17. These will be provided until Sunday. Hopefully
    18. Indeed, these medals looks like they were exposed to acid or something ... That's why I thought it would be fun to discuss them I think there were several dies (too many medals around )
    19. Yep, today I fell in a fit of posting ... Again
    20. Oops. Indeed this medal doesn't have this "raised line" I've posted wrong medal for comparison Sorry man, I can't right now post the correct one (I am currently on mobile - that's why most of the time my posting activity looks like a series of outbursts ) Until then please believe me that this "raised line" is "normal" feature of "normal" medals :)
    21. I believe you! Yes, I think all these pieces in this thread are real (some of them are in my collection, so if they aren't that will be one huge bummer ) and rumors about extra rarity of this medal always were slightly (to put it mildly) exaggerated (thanks to Peterson).
    22. That's true, but I believe that the "normal medal" (one that is on the right) also has it (only it is on the upper part of border ornament). No? ;)
    23. On the face of it indeed they look like casting ... But on the second could be original medals that for some time were exposed to some kind agressive environment and then were gilded ... What do you think about this possibility?
