Rare or not rare, but it is certanly against regulations 1973 and 1988 regulations states that officer should wear only one badge (the last one he reserved) Same goes for the current RF regulation - one badge, and one only. But of course officers (especially in reserve) very often violated this rule

    7. Just in case The badge on the left (secondary/middle military college) was in use since 1958. The badge on the right (higher military college) was in use between 1961 and 1982 (should be made by Moscow mint by the way )
    8. Maybe because on graduation day they got (together with diploma) military rank of junior lieutenant in reserve
    9. By the way, this orange piping will disappear from their caps somewhere around 1962 (maybeveven earlier) Instead of orange they became green. As for the photos - I'll try to find something for you ;)
